Split Water Pipe

What is the rubber pipe that runs out from the back of my engine, turns right and goes along for about 20 cms then goes into the rear of the dashboard through the bulk head? Mine has split at one of the clamps. Can I just remove this pipe, fit another and top up my radiator with coolant? Or is there more to it? My car is an '86 318i.

Dependin on what lump u got there will b a bleed screw on the top of the rad expansion bottle or on top of the thermo housin. all u need to do is fill it up start it up and open the bleed screw until water comes out and close, then just repet if u have any air locks in the system.

Shouldn't be much trouble with airlocks on that engine, but to make sure, change the pipe, overfill the radiator, then pull the pipe you have just changed just off the spigot it fits on at the bulkhead, so that a little water can flow out. Just keep it up against the end of the spigot, so that you can control the flow.
Push the pipe back on, tighten the hose clamp, and check the water level after a couple of days.
P.S. Turn the heater control to hot before doing this.
