e30 320i ecu remapping and cheap performance upgrades??

hi, i have got a Dreg 320i and i am trying to get as much power for as little money as possible. i have already installed a KnN air induction kit and a powerflow exhaust but i've found that isn't quite enough! was hoping that some1 might have sum suggestions? cheers Rob

look for a 325 throttle body that is still connected to the engine and transplant that in place 2.0 engine is the easiest and cheapest way mate

If you've got the old L-Jetronic injection, remove the centrifugal rev limitter from the rotor arm in the distributor. Did this with my old '84 and '87 320i's to give a little more at the top end, with a less brutal cutoff in the power (the ECU has a built-in limitter slightly higher up anyway!)

as above but otherwise a 325 inlet manifold and throttle body with the inlet ports matched (there has been a thread on this but i can't find it)

the 325 inlet swop will not work on this one.
as Maurice correctly pointed out , there's no chip to chip, and the rest of the LE jet efi sysytem is NOT compatable with ANY motronic components.
pull the rotor, add a few degreees more base timing and perhaps up the fuel pressure a few psi and thats about it for this one in stock form.

You can use a 325i inlet manifold with the 320i injectors and 325i throttle body, open up the inlet port top corners to match. You can't chip an analogue LE Jet ECU so fit an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and get it set up on a dyno. Removing the rev limiter is not something I would do on a 22 year old engine. It's there to stop the engine going bang.

Doing the mod only ups the maximum revs from around 6,000rpm to 6,250 approx! Should be safe enough if the cambelt's OK.

Rev limit on the standard LE Jet 320i is already 6200................

Each of the two I've owned (an '84 320i 4-door and '87 320iSE 2-door) had rev limiters that brutally cut in at around 6,000rpm - until I ditched the rotor arm centrifugal widget, then the ECU gently chopped it at around 6,250rpm. Quite an improvement IMHO and it costs nowt!
