Hi,

I am starting my turbo conversion soon and its far too cold and wet to go outside and start poking around and measuring my car up so has anyone got pictures of the underneath of their car with a tubo exhaust fitted? If nobody has that picture then the of the underneath of a standard 325 would help me get an idea of what is required!

I was looking at parts here:

http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/jetexcus ... tparts.php

For the top part exiting turbo I was intending to use two of the 90 degree sections they make and a flexible joint between them (vertically fitted). How have other people setup their turbo exhausts because is the flex joint really needed?

Where did you guys get your exhaust pipe from?

Cheers Dan

my application is obviously different but i dont have the flexi pipe and think it wouldnt be totally nessesary, im sure most on here havent used one either although due to my downpipe impacting on speed bumps regularly i can see the flexi would be a good thing to have

You need the flexi joints on FWD cars typically as the engine moves indepentantly of the exhaust.

With the RWD though, you just tie the exhaust to the gearbox and the whole lot moves together :D

Alex,

I was always under the impression it was the engines layout that determined the need of flexi or not, basically due to the stress the engine twisting puts on the exhaust, as we have "longways" ( Can't think of the correct term right now ) the engines twists side to side so doesn't stress exhaust, "sideways" would twist it front to back which needs the flexi.....

Maybe wrong tho, not the first time!

@ PILT, there's a thread by ROSSLE that has a few pics of some turbo exhaust systems, pics of mine on there too!

IIRC, all 3 inch, mines goes, straight, 90', straight, 90', straight, 45, straight, 30', 30', back box, 30' bends.

Even if you have a FWD with a longitudinal engine (Like Renault Savannas and some Audis I think), the engine will still try to rock back and forth as most of it's torque reaction comes from the front wheels. That said, if you just revved it violently in neutral, that same engine would rock side to side.

Cheers Guys,

Great help as usual, I am thinking of going for a 2.5 inch system all the way. From what I read good for 300bhp so plenty for what im after.

Where have people put there lambda sensors, was gonna put mine in the first section coming straight out of the turbo, where has everyone else put theirs?

Cheers

Bigger is always better where turbos are concerned. If you can get 3" in then you won't regret it.

A few inches after the turbine outlet is fine, if you can get an extended boss (like the ones used on the E36 M3 Evo) it gives the sensor a little more protection from the firey blast too.
