I have tried every thing. It is not the earth. It is not the head unit. My next try is to fit a suppresser to the alternator. Does anyone know if this is effective? The humming noise is defiantly connected to the engine revs. I took the car to the halfods hi-fi fitting bod who scratched his head for a while and then went off for a cup of tea. Never saw him again.
Maybe I need a new car!!!

I had a similar problem last year.
Turned out that the RF leads and Power leads were running along side each other down one side of the car. When i took the RF leads out and rerouted them along the opposite side humming had dissapeared!

I have a 325is. The battery is in the boot so the phono leads are no where near the mains lead. All the earth s are fine. I am now considering that maybe the amp is sh#t. I got it of ebay. it is a 1600w four channel amp it was only Ԛ£50.00 but the blurb was good.

I would try running the car with the alternator belt off before forking out for a suppressor.

If it still there it could be picking up ignition pulses.

I hate to say it, but you could be looking at the fact that it's a cheap amp.
