Lots of E30 M50 turbos at www.pure-pf.com . You can buy manifolds etc stuff from their webshop too. They get 500-800hp from them, they seem to be very tough engines, especially non-vanos M50 stroked to 2.8 is really good for power.
One guy here in Finland ran his E30 M50 turbo with 0.8 bar boost (~350hp) for 15 000km without any problems using original engine management. Only change were the injectors and thicked head gasket.
For next summer few friends of mine are building e30 m50 turbos, one in cabrio and one in 2d. Both have CR around 8.5 and different EFI:s. Both should make around 400hp but that we'll see in the summer

Kevin,
My Mates doing a M50 turbo, with a spec that's unreal, forged pistons, crank, eagle rods, arp bolts, studs, big garret, 6 speed box, chargecooler etc
He doesn't use the zone but if you're ever up this way I'll happily take you to meet him.
It's gonna be a monster and he knows his stuff, his previous M20 turbo made 350RWHP and even more torque!

ooh sounds interesting, im not sure on going full spec though, cus that one sounds like its gonna cost an arm and a leg to build that, but where is he getting all the parts from america or finland/sweden? my m20 kinda pissed me off so i think its time to try a m50, cus apparently even as a standard block u can put quite a lot of power through it. and what is the six speed box from???? where abouts are you from then ?

M20 takes power easily as well with same mods as this M50. So don´t doubt it ;)

Box is from a e36 M3, but ask about before you do the same, there are more reliable, better built and cheaper boxes to choose.
I'm based in Suffolk, work just outside of Ipswich, you?

gunni, if you look at my signature, thats my old car, so i know a thing or two about m20 turbo's mate, i wanna do something different.
yeah ive been looking into renting a garage around my estate, so i mite take my time building it, instead of just getting it done quick time like my old one, so i mite be interested in bulletproof internals for it, bare metal respray ect, proper show/ race car. about the box fozzy what other one would you reccomend if u say there are better options to go for(i wud like six speed with it though). yeah im quite a trek from you though i live right by the ACE CAFE and work all over london. do you ever go to ace cafe for german nite at all?

a turbo set up works well on these engines, because they breath very well BUT you need a good management system and have it well mapped. with stock internals i'd say the safe boost limit is about 10-12psi which should easily see over 300bhp form a 2.5 m50

its not a turbo, its a straight m50 with m52 internals and what ever else Ant does, just said it will be there if he wants to have a look to see what kinda space he has to play with.dips346 wrote:didnt know that was a turbo 1an1an wrote:my dads m50/52'd e30 will be at aces this month, fresh from A-tech.

M50 turbo
I've got a nice early non-vanos M50 sat here on the garage floor and the turbo bug has been biting me for a bit, but in reality I don't have the spare bunce to do it at the moment.
Look at these vids for a taster
Supposed to be around the 500bhp mark
