repainting the front valence

im in the process of repainting my front valence as the stonechips have allowed it to rust, ive used high build primer which will be rubbed down with wed & dry when i get back out there tomorrow. what im not sure of tho is do i need to laquer it after? its zinober red which i dont think has laquer as its a solid colour. am i right in thinking i shouldnt clearcoat it? cheers guys

I used laquer on mine, it's an extra layer of protection from the stone chips but it does give a really glossy finish which isn't how it was originally but I like it like that.

yes you should use laquer ,better finish .my touring is zinnobar red and full car is looks like it was laquered from factory

Lacquer is now fairly common on solid colours, but I don't think any E30 with a solid colour would have been lacquered from the factory. It was only the metallic colours that got this.

Aswel if you dont use lacquer it will be much easier to get a better finish with rattlecans. If thats how your doing it?

I used 8 coats of red primer then 6 coats of brilliant red on mine, didnt need any laquer or clear coat but depends on what you want it to look like. i did:

Rub down

Primer (dust coats)
dry
slight rub bing with dry wet n dry
Primer
Rub down
Paint
dry
rub down
paint

This was all done with cans and it looks pretty good But i did it over about 4 days doing about 30-45 mins per day

the paint job i did is still ok with no paint coming off anywhere, so good news for rattle cans!
