Ingvar, mine is chipped, ported & polished and has a Piper fast road cam, but I don't know what the number is, but the idle is absolutely fine, not lumpy at all. Sound like I need to get a BBTB to liven things up a bit more, widge mate, sounds like a bit of a steal you got there from Dave.

Yeah, you've got yourself some right quality mods there for not much splash.
Would really like to hear from you once you've put the TB on, as to what difference it makes, i.e. bottom or top end etc

I'll let you know about this time tomorrow. Should improve full throttle stuff and may be throttle response, as well as over all gas flow. Just a case of pulling all these expensive paperweights togeather now to build an engine

hats off to you on the build fella. I'm more theory than practice at the end of the day. Full of ideas but never get off my arse to do any of them.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to just mess around with E30's all day long for a living!!!

Have any of you guys done Dyno after tuning to verify gains? Preferably before and after? Or know of anyone who has had positive results?

I was fortunate enough to get car with all the mods done and although there is a receipt with the history for a rolling road tune, there is no printout. I am gonna email my mate tomorrow who had all the work done and see if he ever got the power output verified.
This will be interesting... I have seen claims to as much as 220, but I've seen ads with cars rated at 200 with dyno to prove it.E30BeemerLad wrote:I was fortunate enough to get car with all the mods done and although there is a receipt with the history for a rolling road tune, there is no printout. Ingvar - just heard back from my mate who had the tuning work done to my car.
Apparently it produced 192BHP on the rolling road, which he said he distinctly remembered as it was the same power figure as the 24V lump in the E36. This will have been about 3-4 years ago, so it would be interesting to see what power it would produce now 50K miles later!

I would guess at 190-195bho with Cam, BBTB, Chip and a tune up. For more you need remap, exhaust, headwork and a maf conversion, then 200-210 is poss. After that 2.7eta bottom end and another remap, poss upto 230. For more you'll need individual TB's or Carbs really.bebecar wrote:Have any of you guys done Dyno after tuning to verify gains? E30beemerlad, 192bhp is very impressive, up 22bhp on std and without a BBTB, get one quick then mate!! I've had mine for months and it's such an improvement, all over the rev range, do it now

HEY GUYS...
You all owe me money for completely destroying my thread with your friendly E30 banter..
I was just about to order the 'Zone 1' Chip when i Pay-pal limit needs to be verified..DOH!
Give me a chance to make sure im ordering the right one??

fozzy - am defo going to hunt down a BBTB, presumably I am looking for something of a 3.5 lump?
What cars do I need to be lookin out for with this on then, E28 & E34's?
Is it a direct bolt on replacement or do I have to make any subtle adjustments/ mods?
Is the AFM the same on the bigger engined cars or do I have to change that also?
Sounds like this will compliment my other mods nicely

No not workin 4 another 2 weeks and lovin it (when it rains) driffffffffffffffffffffftin

You can fit the M30 one with some help from a drill and a dremel, however the std M20 one is bored out to increase volume by aprox 16%, it's recon'd and has new seals and a new butterfly too.E30BeemerLad wrote:fozzy - am defo going to hunt down a BBTB, presumably I am looking for something of a 3.5 lump?

They are Ԛ£120 exchange through alpina527@aol.co.uk, his name is Ian and he is a top bloke, forgot more about e30's than we could ever hope to know.
Just advise him how many servo elbows you have on the right hand side of the TB, that way you get the right one. Only thing to have done once fitted is a C/O check.
You can fit a M30 AFM too if you fancy it, it's a larger bore and will flow more, but.........you'll need to have somewhere that can set them up as you may need to adjust fuel pressure and tweak the tuning a little to get the best outta it.
I have a M30 AFM with a M20 AFM board fitted, not needed now as I am changing to run a MAP sensor with the standalone ecu. In fact I actually have two M30 AFM's, one the hybrid, one std.
You're more than welcome to make me an offer for either, not much use to me these days

And if you havent tried a zone chip yet, ask Ant for a copy of mine, it's not the WILD chip as such and not one to up the MPG's.....but on a stock 2.5 I'm running 6.9 to 60 and the 1/4 is taking 15.2 @ 96mph, so it's worth it just too see if it will open yours up a little more. 100% he'll refund if not what you want, infact I'll pay for it if you don't like it

Might be worth listing all the mods you have so others can advise where they have gone to further the development of their M20. Also the ZONE Z3 short shift is def worth doing, soo much better

Thanks for the tips Fozzy mate
Mods I have are:
Piper fast road cam (don't know what number, i.e. 286 etc?)
Ported & polished cylinder head
Remapped ECU with custom chip (what it says on the invoice)
FSE fuel pressure regulator - don't know what pressure set at
K&N panel filter in standard airbox
Standard manifold onto Scorpion stainless DTM system
with above mods, that's what it made the 192BHP with.
If I go BBTB I think I will go bigger AFM too and just get the whole scherbaang set up on a rolling road. When i'm in Norfolk i'm not far from Watton where Dave Walker at Emerald is, so might get it on his rollers.
Nearly had it on the 1/4 mile here in York last Sunday, so wish i'd just told the missus to shut up and let me abuse the car! hey ho, will have to wait until the meet on 17th July, might be brave at Retro Cars Show at the pod on 3rd July, mmmmmmmmm
Hope it would poss run into the 14's as it is if I get my launches right, not got a slipper though.

This is turning out to be a very interesting thread
192 hp is a very good increase, It would be brilliant to document the increase to BBTB and if you change the chip!
In my case... I am only looking to get to about 190, I would be quite happy with that E30 M3-ish figure
any more would make me violently happy

The chip on your ECU is it a replacement chip or do you have another box now? Be interested to know how they remapped it......unless they have the same abilities as Ant......E30BeemerLad wrote:Thanks for the tips Fozzy mate![]()

I'm not sure what piper cams are available, usually they are fast road or rally ones....not sure, def worth finding out tho....It might say on the cam itself, take off rocker cover and have a gandy..... If you have a smooth idle I doubt it's anymore than std, slightly rough would indicate mild and when tickover is barley possible cause it's so rough then a wild cam is in there.
If you are down this way let me know and I'll meet up with ya, I'm only 45 mins south of Watton. I could bring along the M30 AFM's and let you have a play, I bet Dave could get it setup if anyone can, however I hope it's a quick tune up, those RR's are getting silly expensive these days.
And if you can get a 6 branch manifold on quick, that and the BBTB will open atleast 20 ponies.......but the manifolds are not that cheap, but the noise is devine

And if my ECU eventually gets through customs in London I'll aim to be at Santa pod on the 3rd too!!
Mark.

Cheers Fozzy - it is a different chip as the original one came in a little box with the folder full of receipts etc, but have no idea what make it is or what settings were programmed.Tickover is really smooth, it doesn't hunt etc. Really do feel it come on cam though, it surges when past 5K.
Have to change the rocker gasket as it is weeping a little oil near the front so will have a gander at the cam then. Plus need the tappets adjusting a little too.
Would love a 6 branch but don't have the pennies for that at the mo.

Right guys have fitted the BBTB to my 325, which is standard apart from Ants zone chip. It's a BBTB I got off Cabrio 327 with a 3.5 butterfly in it.
I's impreoved the throttle response, I only have to move the accelerator a timy amout not to make the revs rise to 3000+ and on full throttle it goes like a train
Seroiusly go for it guys.

Cabrio Dave said he could definately tell mine wasn't standard when we had the odd burst of acceleration in places on the way back from the meet a few weeks back. I think with mine it is just a case of a combination of mods working together.
Had to slum it into work on Friday in my pug 406td, maan it felt like a bouncy castle after driving the 325 non stop for the last couple of months. Mind you, it all worked out well as the missus had to take the beemer out on her own and came back raving about it. Good news! The more she likes the car, the better chance I have of spunking some cash on more mods & maintenance!

would a 2.0 deal with a huge bbtb (e.g m30 or bored out 2.5 one)?
I'm tempted to get a dremmel and have an bit of experimentation..
(ps I dont want to leave the 2.5 one on the original engine

The standard 325 tb is loads bigger than the one you have, you could put on the 325 manni and throttle, then chip it too320Touring wrote:would a 2.0 deal with a huge bbtb (e.g m30 or bored out 2.5 one)?

hate to go a little off topic, but does anyone have and advice about chips for the M42 iS? Heard a fair bit about them, but can only really find cheap or unknown chips, so any info would be appreciated.
