People, I remember we spoke previously about designing an adaptor to convert to 5 stud. I have a local machinist who is willing to do the work. Just need your excellence to help deisgn it and then he'll make them for us!

Who can help?

nice one mate i havent had time to sort anything as been away

think all youd really need would be the imprint from 1 4 and a 5 stud hub
but im sure someone will have measurements Daz

Na I just dug it up from the other thread.
The top is of a converter plate that also spaces the wheels out further.
The bottom two are of a 5 stud conversion some one was doing for some sort of race car, a bit of topic as I think the top one is what every one wants.

The pics with the wheel studs are actually a combined spacer/disc adaptor for our hubs that are already 5 stud. something along those lines should work tho'.

Daz, I've been to Fairbank and Dunning in Leeds today, they're making a prop shaft adaptor for me. I've also spoken to them about hub adaptors etc. have you ever used them? Seemed like decent, clued up guys. 8)

I used Fairbank to make the propshaft on my kit car (still not finished  ) and they were very helpful and quite cheap I seem to remember. Even rang me up to send me out to the garage to count the number of splines on the gear box as apparently there were 2 different types. Ԛ£80 I think it was for a custom prop with a UJ at each end.

What about having the machinist drill new holes into the hubs , then use some 5lugs rotors that fit?

Remember the hub has already 4 holes with threads in them, whats the diffrence if you get more holes made to fit a 5x120 lug pattern,
possibly even have the rotors drilled the same,
With great challenges comes great engineering.

never heard of em mate but if widge says theyre sound i wouldnt worry mate what happened to the lad on the other thread that already had a set???any1 know who it was??
i like the sound of a hub that would take 4 and 5 studs but dnt think it would leave much metal left in the hub plus it wouldnt sort out diff hub sizes Daz
ps widge u still got that spoiler for me?? no hurry just checkin mate

the bolt on adaptors would fit the bill no worries, the hub-centric part is the most important and if the spacer alters the offset that means we can all go and buy 5x120 golf fitment BBS and have them sit exactly spot on in the arches.

I must admit I dont get the 5 lug craze, but then I'm happy with the wheels I have j/k

I've got to admit I'm pretty happy with my BBS's too.
and I've got an alternative set of rims in the garage for when I get bored, they're 4 stud too!

Basically I need someone who is clued up to say what would be best. Looking at that first picture I am not sure how it would work.

I was thinking we wanted something that we could bolt on and then bolt into?? Is that what others are thinking or not??

I am sure others have put a lot of thought into this so please share it with us and we can make this work.

There are loads of lovely 5x120 wheels out there!!

Thats what the firs picture is of. The four holes have nice allan head machine screws that bolt to the existing hub stud holes, then the 5 bolts you can see in the picture hold the new wheel on.

yep like breyton magics.

following this thread i figured that brake disks/drums/hubs could be drilled to take 5 stud rims - rather than spacers with more holes drilled.

if an engineering firm gets involved then can the 4 holes be replaced with (melted) metal? or can the disks/hubs be copied then drilled for 5 stud? once a mould is made then it wouldn't matter how many copies are requested they wouldn't cost much to knock out. does this thead then move to the group buy section?

that is a very good idea but likely to be costly?
also if the hubs were made up in 5 stud, we could then just use m3 discs?

I have some deep dish schnitzer style rims in my shed, of my old E34 525i... they looked the nutz on that, and I wanted to fit them on the E30.. I was all ready to buy the adapters when I realised there was no chance of getting the rear wheels under the arch!!!! they are 17 x 8 fronts and 17 x 10 rears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Trying to stay on the subject, how easy is it to remove all four hubs from an E30 to have them drilled?

I have some spare so I guess I will be the guinea pig!

You CAN'T, taking the front hubs off destroys them...
You will need to buy new ones at Ԛ£47 each.

and as you can see in the picture below, the holes are already close the the outside edge.

so re-drilling your old bearings, just aint an option.
