Right basically I know I'm probably going to get some stick for this but stay with me please.

I'm a tight fisted student who has to put petrol in his b20, I want a chip to increase drivability (more torque or low end power) as i do a lot of traveling on the weekend through the welsh mountains up lots of hills and around lots of hill sides.

My problem is the chips I have seen claim to increase fuel economy? is this possible? All i want is to be able to drive my car better without having to drop it down gears so much and have to rev as high. But I don't want to have to put more fuel in it. I've always been taught you can't have fuel economy and performance as it is a trade off?

Just wondering if people had some feedback of this be it a zone chip or a cheap chip or what ever?

Hmmm, my Dad's fuel bill didn't go down when he had the engine rebuilt, still got 35mpg on a run.

But I do believe chips increase the economy.

It's not about more fuel, it's about the AFR. I'm led to believe anyway.

Not sure about a 320, but a chip I had in my last 318is didn't have any affect on the fuel consumption.

Not long chipped mine and got more power grunt revs and so on and seem to still be getting the same mpg
But thats on my 325i

Have just chipped mine and economy is MUCH better, along with throttle response and torque. The reason that fuel economy becomes better, or no worse, is that the engine recieves the fuel it actually needs at the right time, i.e you'll have to "push" the car less to get the speed that you require. Nowadays I'm hardly touching the throttle sitting at 60 / 70 mph !!

Buy a zone chip from Ant and your car will feel 100 % better to drive. It's very easy and quick to fit too.

There is also a chip called alpina from speedtouch his are £30 at your door also 5 min job to fit and make a world of differance.
But dont be put off by the price this chip does as he says

Lol yeah I know that, that was my theory just wasn't sure if sellers were just putting as an "better then sliced bread" feature to it was all.

What are the evolve chips like?

I have fitted an Evolve chip to my 325i and it feels a quicker car because of it... Not really noticed a difference in fuel economy though.
