the screw set the idle mixture strength dude, alter it only with the use of a gas analyser or you could end up running worse !

the vacuum hose you mention.. should be the one that runs to the servo ? the pics are a tad small to see clearly what you are asking though

M40 massive... help a fellow zoner out

the vacuum to the servo is further over this vacuum comes off the throttle plate the opposite side to the fpr run.

the mixture screw, does it get richer when turned clockwise or anticlockwise? i take it that this sets the mixture throughout the range, is it possible to cause the car to run lean / richj as my m8 said he could smell petrol when i was booting it he was following me.

the only reason i say is that i have a sneeky suspishion (speeeling) this has been played with

gonna change the plugs tonight except for that im stumped

Hi mate sorry you're not getting any replies...

The mixture screw should have an anti-tamper plug fitted, so if this is missing then it's probably down to someone messing.

Are there any local quick tune places that could look at it for you??

Lumpy idle deffo sounds like a vacuum leak though, if I remember correctly, there's a small blank pipe under the throttle body on the M40, and the plastic plug on the end of this pipe tends to crack and create a vacuum leak...
