i am intending to do this as a practise before i twin charge my 200sx.

using a mini superchager i reckon about 160-180 bhp Ԛ£100.

intercooler got a fmic in my gargage :D Ԛ£0

Will the zone chips cope with a supercharger should do as its only a matter of fuelling and timing alterations Ԛ£?

Pipework and inlet manifold i can do my self as i can weld and get hold of tube v cheap :D Ԛ£50

will the 318 M40 engine handle the supercharger or will i need a thicker head gasket to drop the compression ratio?

Might be useful to take a look at the supercharging an M40 topic on this one :)

Doesn't sound like you're after huge power so with any luck the standard CR should be fine.

Not sure about the Zone Chip, my first thought would be that it wouldn't be suitable, but someone will be able to tell you for sure :)

Pump should be fine I think, I've had to upgrade my injectors though.

I'm gonna be using the standard clutch for the 325i, not sure if it'll be enough or if the standard 318 one'll cope either.

i'm thinking of doing this to my m10 but thought the mini supercharger wouldn't be powerfull enough as they are a 1.6.

I think the chip can handle it because ant makes them himself so I guess he can make some alterations(spel) to one??!

its more power output than engine capacity

surely though if its ok for the mini at 1.6 lts then at top end on mine the power output wouldn't be big enough

Have a look at the M42 thread, it shows a lot of the technical info regarding the Eaton M45 Supercharger (thanks to Turbo-Brown) It will run a 1.8 no problem.

power requires a certain amount of fuel/air to get.. the charger will work fine with a 1.8.. its the power thats more important not the engine size

with a 1.8, assuming 85% VE you could run about 7psi of boost, this at 7000 rpm is about 280CFM, the M45 can do about 320CFM or so at top whack. This would give about a 40% gain in horsepower (using Turbo-Browns simple idea of % increase in air)

Quick look at the numbers for the M40

115hp stock, 40% increase is about 150hp or so..

Just get an M42 engine, it would be cheaper and easier.

its a 1.8 4cyl 16valve (twin cam) bmw engine as found in the e30 318iS :D

Fairly rapid for "4pot wrongness" and a good engine to drive...

should be a couple available in the 'for sale' section...

what college course are you gonna do?!

if you're smart you can probably do something associated with Travis Perkins trade, and do it day release so you get educated and paid at the same time?!!!

200sx will be turbo and supercharged will be tuned to run approx 450bhp on a m90 or 112 eaton blower and T38 turbo on about 1.6 bar.

back to the 1.8............ the power increase of 40% is without intercooling or anything else the 40% increase is bolting onto a standard engine for example silvia S12 RSX has the CA18DET engine turbod but not intercooleed and runs about 140bhp the S13 200sx runs the CA18DET intercooled and runs 170bhp.

Ooh, compound charging :)

Gonna be fun setting that up! Think someone posted a vid of an E36 M3 on the rollers which was compound charged. Sounded fooking wicked!

i reckon 160-180bhp could be seen with the M40 with the mini supercharger i an use the intercooler ive got, exhaust and filter, and some management from Ant.

The management wouldnt be that hard its only fuelling and timing at the end of the day.... pulling the timing back a bit up the top end and increasing the injector duty cycle

Was it a white one, probably the one Savspeed here in South Africa is building, I saw, and heard it in real life, Sav showed he got 320km/h on a stretch with his gps or something
