Hi
, Happy new year all
my drivers door mirror needs replacing as its just fallen off !
i ve got a spare diff coloured mirror but only really want to swap the glass . electric motor s etc over ,
the existing ones broken the plastic geared rack and little retaining pins on it , so the glass is dropped out
is there a trick to remove the glass from the good door mirror with out breaking it or the plastic gears etc ?? and re fitting it to the over coloured mirror ?

its a sliding clip at the base of the gear mount you describe, normally you can slide the clip with a small flathead screwdriver through the small hole at the centre base of the wingmirror, though, as brianmooore will tell you -its easier to angle the mirror as far up as possible so you can get at the retaining clip looking at it from the base of the frame rather than the hole -the clip slides transversely, hope that helps

Make double sure that the locking ring has locked in place! Many have had their nice new mirror glass fall off five miles up the road.
