i'd say 325, great engine for everyday use (if a bit thirsty), lots about and a great base to start turboing supercharging etc. and on the latter, talk to ant on here as i believe he's the guru of all things m20 boost related.

just buy on condition of the shell over the engine as engine parts are far easier to sort than a rusting shell.

good luck :D

Yes exactly, make sure that there isnt a lot of rust on the shell, have a look under the carpet in the boot for any rust, go on a hunt, under the arches...wherever you can really.

I would avoid cars driven by youths, SOME youths thrash their cars. (I learnt that the hard way)

If its a high mileage ask about the servicing, regular oil changes, if the timing belt has been changed any time soon...
Ask about where the car has been driven, an e30 with 100k of clean motorway miles, is better than an e30 with 50k miles of driving around the city.

I reckon the best models are the 318is or the 325i the rest can be a bit underpowered or a bit thirsty for what there worth.

Im sure the rest of the zoners can fill you in on what ive missed on

Also if he wants to turbocharge it go for a post facelift (1988 onward) as the engine is lower compression therefore you can use more booooost!

Good luck, and your bloke is a lucky man!

Hahaha you should have been here a few days ago. Out of the mouths of innocents!!!

The four pot boys are going to love you for that comment!!

In truth, just get an e30 with a solid shell, regardless of engine. Then look at an engine swap. The e36 engine range has a couple lumps which give out of the box gains. Plus, I'm led to believe, will respond to forced induction very well.

The crank. That's all you need.

I think.

Not sure about rods or pistons, but the crank can take plenty of power!

You could also use an M52 crank for a 2.8.
