That would need a whole lot of work!

I think the driveshafts come out the sump...

Anything is possible but v12 into e30 is rare for a reason i would imagine nothing is straght forward and everything is custom. if you have the £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ and the time why not go for it.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I guess your only massive headache would be having a sump made which could take the driveshaft.

No idea what the front diff mounts to either but why not give it a go and find out. Would be awesome if you can make it work.

Just a thought, but aren't the front diffs only just up to taking the standard M20B25's torque?

Not so. The iX drivetrain is being used in applications up to 400 BHP. The weak link is the front propshaft from the transfer case into the front diff. It suffers from short spline engagement and can strip the splines. This has only proven to be a problem in cars that have not had the shafts greased correctly. People have got over this by having the shaft remade with longer splines.

There is a 325iX running an S38B38 quite nicely! Sure, the sump would be a nightmare to get over though.

from the look of the pic above, they've used the iX sump with an adapter plate to overcome this issue.

I see some Curil-T poking out there too, good stuff that

V12 into an E30 is not news anymore, variouse projects on the globe have done that before but I do not think some one have done it on a E30 ix....
It wouldnt be an easy job, but if you have the cash and time go ahead and make a nice tread about it!

like nickso said the engine bay would be so tight, i would imagine you'd have to strip back most chasis at that end to squeeze that thing in

i see the idea of putting a v12 in a e30 but i would save the massive problem of using an ix by using a standard rear drive e30.
imo

if you were to do it i say have a look at a joining plate like teh pics above to fix the ix sump. it would be a mint car!

i always quite fancied one of these with an s50 and a tech 2 kit to replace the gash kit they come with but always assumed that the 4wd system was some kind of crude tractor derived system only just capable of handling the output of a finely tuned m10 with a 15bhp cone filter and 10bhp triple spark plugs.

the one in the vid certainly seems to set off well with no sign of a trail of stripped teeth winkeye

If you have to pay someone to do the machine work maybe. Parts from something less rare than the ix might save some money at the expense of added complexity.

I had a similar thought after reading the RB25 Skyline transplant thread. The skyline oil pan/diff will be pretty similar size to the M70 and the 'box will be easily up to the power of the V12. However on closer inspection of the pictures it looks like the skyline crankcase bottom face is slanted, the M70 wont be.

I doubt the gearbox from the ix would handle the torque.

cheers for all your input its all been taken on board i cant help thinking its a silly thing to take on but you never know what mite turn up so. i mite find someway of doing it with existing bits but then again i mite get into it and find i've wasted alot of time and effort of course money to realise i may have taken on more than i can chew, which is anything really but hey i'd welcome any1 to join me of a weekend and ask questions and make tea over the next year or so whilst i decide how im gonna do it.

It will cost you thousands. Its not something that could be done on your drive or lockup garage.

If it was to happen then not much would have been achieved. It will be a thirsty and unrealiable thing, which would be no quicker than some sub 5k cars that you can buy.

Yes Jon.. but the Kudos!!

I'm sure there are more cars that I could buy out there better than mine, but since it's only one of a few with an M60B40, I'm happy with it.
Sure I could have bought a cossie/wrx/nissan etc and done that up, but wheres the fun in that? You're doing pretty much what everyone else has already done.
