Whats with the IS and sport?

*sigh*
Can we now close the subject?
I win.
my 325i is now a 'sport' replica i suppose, the only reason i bought a standard 325 is that i bought it off my mate for 200 quid, mtec kit cost me 240 quid and was right colour for my car and i got some 15" bbs for 70 quid, and some sport leathers for 250, that makes my total spend with clips for kit and bits and bobs about £850, fair enough it doesnt have the headlining and other bits you cant see but i think it was good value doing it the way i did, i also enjoy working on my car so fitting diffs and suspension at a later date will only be good fun, thats what its all about i think....diy, it may not be worth as much as one with 'sport' on the V5 but to me its worth more anyway because i created it.

well i wouldn't buy a nice 325i se to make it a sport replica.
also all e30s are old now so most are in need of restoration whether it be a sport or is etc
so all i would say is buy a nice se and make it really nice for the price of a sport.

a sport replica!
You have just contradicted yourself.
I personaly would keep an se, an se as a nice original one is becoming a rare thing.

ah i see and you would know this max because you have driven an m20? and an i.s???maxfield wrote:Makes it a much better engine than a M20...
Also with it weighing less, it makes the car handle better.
Keep it going, this thread might make 10 pages!
Well, if some people prefer to have an old fashioned engine, thats fair enough too.
Reasons I'd prefer to own an iS is that
1. It handles pretty well
2. I actually kinda like the look of an iS since nearly everybody has M-tec kitted stuff here
3. A 325i-Sport is double the price on tax over here at nearly 900 compared to around 500 for an iS for just having a 6 pot noise and the abillity to use up more petrol
I just can't see the justification of a 325 when a good iS will give me just as much fun in driving it.
And thats what it all comes down to... what you enjoy driving the most.
They are all E30s so whats the point debating which is best.
Obvouisly a better spec'd or rare car will always be more sought after.

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
Er have you forgoten the extra performance and greater tunability of the 6 pot m20?Dave_M3 wrote:A 325i-Sport is double the price on tax over here at nearly 900 compared to around 500 for an iS for just having a 6 pot noise and the abillity to use up more petrol
Tunability? What tunability?lol Its not much more n/a power than an M42? Just depends how far your budget stretches.
And if your talking about turbos iv seen a 500bhp m42 and a 318iS that runs 12.9 second quarter miles. Yeah, its not got much tunability compared with the mighty 6 pot..

I'm talking about N/A tunability. You cant improve as much on an M42 as you can on an M20.hammoj28 wrote:Tunability? What tunability?lol Its not much more n/a power than an M42? Just depends how far your budget stretches.

Its also 30bhp more and alot more lbft standard.
Thank you Max. A lot of people are getting around 200bhp out of the M42 n/a therefore im sure a lot more is possible.
And I cant remember what power the S42 engine was? Up to 310bhp or something silly? Correct me if im wrong but thats pretty decent power.

i rest my case.maxfield wrote:No, it's simple maths my friend.
That doesnt count as its a completely re-engineered engine built by bmw M hence the different designation.maxfield wrote:You can tune an M42 much more than an M20...
Think along the lines of S42...
I'm talking tunability of stock M42's and stock M20's
M20's have made up to 260bhp in N/A form, thats a 90bhp increase over standard.
I haven't seen an N/A M42 with 230bhp unless someone can prove me wrong?
For example from whats been banded about on the zone you cant improve on the standard M42 exhaust and manifold. With an M20 there is 15+ bhp to be gained from this alone.
