I did that too, made it so the light behind the check sign came on.

Shat myself when the shift light first came on as of course I thought something was wrong

I have a three stage shift light fitted between the rev counter and the speedo. But it is part of the MAXX Alpha-N piggy back system. The picture shows my first install with standard LED's. I have replaced them with superbright LED's now, the standard ones are just too dim in day light. I use the green (1st stage) light as a "do not shift down" aid, you know this situations when you hit the wrong gear and shift down just to find out you are already 500rpms in the red. :D It comes on at approx 5000rpm and shows me in a split second that I don't need to bother with a downshift. Amber is the 2nd Light (and 1st "warning") and the red is my shift point st at 7600 which means till my hand is doen on the shifter it's already 7800 or a little more (limiter set at 8000)

No, that is a DIY narrow band Lambda gauge I used when I didn't have a WBO. Works quite good but for proper mapping it's useless. I used it as an indicative tool just in case something went wrong really bad.
It will at least show you that you are lean and you can decide if you want to lift off or not.

Got a second hand OMEX sequential set (4 lights) if you want them. They were in the car I brought but I already had a set I was used too from my Civic type R so I swapped them for those. Yours if you want them?

No Offence Paul! I just liked this one better. http://www.caraddiction.co.uk/ To be honest the OMEX one is better quality but I got used to the big red light and the fact you set the shift points by numbers and not a sequence of buttons. I kept forgetting how many times I'd pressed it :o:

I wired them up at the same time and set the shift point really low (3500) and there was nothing in it.

Yeah I know what you mean. When I fitted a mock up of my dash in cardboard (very Blue Peter!) I couldn't read the oil temp/press gauge.
If you look at it from straight on it's nigh on invisible but if you look from slightly above it's clear as day.

Same with shift lights, they work best when at the right viewing angle. The bigger the led the more of an angle that is.

And that'll be my car (no33) in M3GTR's signature :D

i like the idea of a shift light but £100 seems a lot right now......

how difficult could it be to wire up a makeshift one (just one light will do - don't need a 2 or 3 stage one)

is it possible to run a wire off the back of the rev counter to a led/light mounted elsewhere or will i need an electronic contol unit?
