I am looking at wheels on ebay, i was thinking of using 14" with low profile tarmac rally tyres....
What do you think would be lighter, 14" bbs alloys or 14" golf g60 steel wheels??

14" with low profile tyres would give you an even higher effective final drive ratio, but will also lower the car, reducing ground clearance. It's probably a good thing, then, that you can't get them! Lowest profile tyre I've seen for 14" rims is 55%, in a Toyo T1-R.
I'd go for 15" BBS - cheap, plentiful, easy to beat back into shape (!), and no problems with tyre availability.
