I have filled my car up twice since I bought her and realised I am getting really crap mileage from a full fill up.
It cost around £35-£50 to fill her up and I am only getting around 160-200 miles.
What are the main things to check as my dad employs a mechanic and I can tell him where to look.

Your mechanic should know where to look with out you telling him!!!
Few possibilities
Either the engine isn't tuned properly or there is a major fuel leak...
You cane it everywhere...
Your brakes are binding, but to be honest were going to be playing a guessing game here all night.
Get a decent mechanic to look at it and work out what is wrong, don't just start replacing things for the hell out it...

If your engine bay sounds loud when u start the engine, it could be the exhaust pipe leaking somewhere at the joint. This is what i encounter for my car. I do agree with Mark. He sound like my mechanic.
"Don't simply replace the parts because others tell you so, you must find the root of the problem."
good luck in searching for a good mech..
