No experience at all, but I think I've seen on here recently that they will, and without mods.

Yes E28 front seats will fit into an E30, you will need to swap the runners as the spacing between them is different, as follows:

I would advise removing the back rest from the base to make life easier, undo two small cross head screws near the hinge point at each corner of the seat back cover, slide upwards off the top clips and set aside. Within the outer edges of the back rest frame low down the are two large cross head screws recessed into the frame(one either side), remove them. The back rest will now lift off the base.

Note if they are two door seats you will need to disconnect the back rest release wires as well.

1. Undo the 17mm bolts for the seat belt and receiver each side of the seat.

2. Prize off the "hinge" part to the back rest that these fix over each side.

3. Withdraw the bar that these bolt into from the loop in the seat base fabric at the back.

The rear of the runners are now free.

4. Carefully unhook the link wire for the seat adjuster (looks like coat hanger wire)

5. At the front of the seat runners are hinge pins, squeeze the sprung clips and push these out one at a time, the runners are now released from the seat base.

Re-assembly is the above in reverse order.

P.S. E24 6 series seats will also fit, but again you would need to change the runners.

Good luck, any problems PM me.

The seat part is identical to the e30 seats. It's just another avenue to expolre when replacing knackered interiors.

As Nathan says, they are both just alternatives, some of the E24 sport seats look more like the E30 M3 recaro design.

Putting electrically operated seats in would be complicated due to differences in looms, also they are really heavy, i have them in M5 E28 M5, it's all i can do to lift one out the car 8O
