advise on track day camber adjustment
Moderator: martauto
Hi
We have a 325 track slapper and at Oulton Park yesterday a chappie mentioned a relatively cheap and effective way to improve the handling was to fit E30 M3 camber mounts? Which provide better camber.
I didnt like to say WTF you talking about at the time.
Has anyone got any knowledge of this?
Cheers

the eccentric control arm bushes increase the caster, which helps with turn in, it does not change the camber angle in any major way as far as i'm aware
i think he was refering to the suspension top mounts where they attach to the turret on the inner wing

powerflex and superflex do the m3 control arm bushes which increase castor.they are more money but wiont adjust the camber.billgatese30 wrote:the eccentric control arm bushes increase the caster, which helps with turn in, it does not change the camber angle in any major way as far as i'm aware

bimmerworld.com do adjustable and fixed camber top plates quite expensive though!!

thought so, thanks for confirming thatTimbopbmw wrote:but wont adjust the camber.
Yes they will. They move the rearward mounting point of the control arm outwards in the lollipop. The top mount doesn't move. Voila the bottom is now further out than the top = increased neg camber.Timbopbmw wrote: powerflex and superflex do the m3 control arm bushes which increase castor.they are more money but wiont adjust the camber.

do you know roughly how much they change the camber by on say, mtech springs?
Top mounts will help your track and improve handling but depends on what you want to pay as lots of options and whether still plan to use on the road as will affect tyre wear etc...let me know as can recommend retailer near you if helps for bits like that...so many options at different prices
rose jointed and alli adjustable for £70? Can you please post some details ?cabrio wrote:can vary between £40 each to £300...but good compromise with proper rosejoints and alli adjustable mount for aboiut £70 for most uses
i would be interestedUweM3 wrote:rose jointed and alli adjustable for £70? Can you please post some details ?cabrio wrote:can vary between £40 each to £300...but good compromise with proper rosejoints and alli adjustable mount for aboiut £70 for most uses
Hi all and thanks for your replies.
Yes I thnik the chappie was talking about the top mounts. He stated that the E30 M3 ones fit straight in and provide a better camber for increased traction on track when cornering. Does that sound right?
I would be interested in any suppliers and prices.
Our's is soley used as a track car and has no road use so we are after as much grip as possible, tyre wear is less important. So I supposed just ones fixed for more negative camber would be fine, budget is quite tight as we are doing it for fun more than competativly and presently we have issues with the head gasket and clutch, also need an LSD see link !

I'm based near Birmingham / Worcester anyone know any suppliers of this kind of thing for E30's, Cheers for the US link.

this sounds like he is talking about the control arm bushes mate,as people have said one here you can get M3 ones and they fit straight in mate, but there is no such thing to my knoladge of adjustable controll arm bushes (if this makes things easier for you to understand they are the ones that for on the rear of the front wishbone.thnik the chappie was talking about the top mounts. He stated that the E30 M3 ones fit straight
people above inc myself have changed these for solid ones which i thbink wiould be a great option for a track car i will get thie link to the group buy that was made and perhaps you can get some shipped in these are the best for a track car as said link will follow in next post
as for the top mounts these are the mounts at the top of the front suspension leg when the leg is removed they are the things that swivel at the top of the leg with three bolts coming out of them, these are what are avalable in adjustable ones, so you could change the camber depending on circuit and other needs
if you dont want adjustable ones get some like the ones i have again link will follow they are fixed camber -3 or 4 degrees i cant rember ones they are about half or less the price of the adjustable eibach ones which i really need as i have a track which also goes on the road but never mind tyres are cheap enough
i hope this has helped you mate as there seemed to be much confusiion
links will follow all the best matey
Prices for concentric and eccentric bushes are here too http://cart.zonemotorsportstore.co.uk/i ... nt=10&pg=1
Although the eccentric bushes will increase negative camber, it's by a miniscule amount. Kumho race cars tended to run with a minimum of 3 degrees negative camber using adjustable top mounts.
