hi guys
been offered a convertible 325i and im thinking of sorting what needs to be done and selling it on in the summer.

but ive just finished my turbo convertibe
and im thinking of do this one so i can get a bit more £Â£Ã‚£ in the summer winkeye

will get a manifold from usa and brace it like the one im using.
get some injectors usa again.
get a down pipe made.
and sort the exhaust.
got a volvo i/c
and do my piping

but...

i dont wanna go down the megasquirt road cos its a bit pricey and if im goona sell the car it will cut my profit margin by quite a bit

carnt i use my management with the uprated injectors but have a afm in between my throtle and the intercooler?

im sure i heared that the m30 afm is the best one to use, but i might be wrong.
will the car start and run?
will it be ok?

once ill sell it the car the new owner can go down the root of m/s or other mappable management

whats your opions
and is any1 using a afm instead of mappable ecu's

thanks hass

go over to e30tech.com and see what they do, if you go on TCD site they sell a chip that is supposed to be good for up to 16psi, and it does work.

I've stuck with the afm on my conversion and used an adjustable fuel pressure reg to deal with the fueling side. Works fine to about 7/8 psi only prob is I'm getting detonation at anything over 4 psi.
I've ordered a device from MSD in the states that retards the ignition so many degrees per psi of boost. Still waiting for it to turn up though so can't test. Will keep you posted if it works.

This sounds interesting as I'm currently saving for a ms too but want to get the motor up and running in the meantime.

That would allow me to put the ms on the back burner for now.

Guys an ideas on what I can do as a temp setup bearing in mind mines is a 323 turbo with jetronic though ?

Cheers

To be honest, you need to factor the price of engine management into your build budget and consider it a pretty vital component.

A couple of people have tried other routes with fairly limited success, and everyone's switched to an aftermarket ECU (as far as I'm aware) which is doing the job properly.

Half agree with Turbo-Brown as the cost of the devises I've bought (BEGI FMU, MSD BTM, Innovative wide band) have probably exceeded the cost of a diy MS.

My main reason for doing it this way was that I want to be able to set it up myself rather than pay some one else to map it on a rolling road. Hopefully learning something along the way.

A couple of other points: Firstly, if you Read Corky Bells book (Maximum Boost). In the 2 example builds, he uses a FMU in both cases. One was on an mx5 the other a Honda NSX......I figure if it works for him.....
Secondly. Turbo conversions have been around way before ECUs came along!

Anyway, once I've cracked it this way I'm gonna have a go with a stand alone of some sort. Liking the look of the Emerald one. Different maps at the flick of a switch plus the hole shebang looks pretty intuitive.
