Trun the current all the way up on an Arc welder and feed the diff a few welding rods into the little gears etc. I guess. Then spend AAAAAAGES chipping all the slag out so it doesn't muller the crown wheel and pinion :(

Well ive welded a few diffs in old sierras and I basically done what Turbo brown said however it was the crown and pinion we welded together (i think) when we opened the diff there was the little wheel in the midle and the 2 larger wheels that this meshed onto. SO we filled this with weld both sides, turned the wheels through 180 degrees and then welded the other side top and bottom again. It makes for great drifts and doughnuts however means for crap turning at low speeds and reuubing of tyres and means car wont pass the MOT.

If in doubt just jam the diff somehow when you have the 2 back wheels off the ground and then turn the wheels to make sure you have found the right bits to weld. Id say you will need around 8 arch welding rods as well. MIG welding isnt as good I heard.

im currently waiting on mine off a mate, should be fun...remeber your gona have no turn in once the diffs welded and you'll have to go real slow in the wet cos you'll just understeer, and of course you cant just back off if you get yourself into trouble.

assuming you know that

take diff out because its much safer/better to do it that way, then clean it, so your not trying to weld to pure grease and oil, then weld spider gears to each other...then weld to the carrier, clean all the shitty shavings on. do it in a crazy over the top fashion since this is your diff your talking about.

im not doing mine cos im not very good at welding and i feel saferin the knowledge that someone who has welded up plenty of diffs is doing it.

Buy a Ԛ£50 sierra special and do it to that. Preferably the 2.0 twin cam engine as its got the grunt. Thats what all the drifters are doing over here at the minute. Its lots of fun and if anything breaks are you really worried about an old sierra? Imagine things going pete tong in your pride and joy E30!!!!!

A mate of mine has just bought a well nice, MOT'd 2.9 XR4X4 for Ԛ£75. He's disconnected the front drive, and has a road legal V6 powered RWD with LSD for autotests/general lunacy etc. Cracking value.

It is a sh!tter really. It's got potential being a lasurblau 2-door 320ise an' all, but it needs a new back valance 'cos it's well wavy, there's a ding in the rear quarter, and it's developed a serious water leak possibly due to hard ragging. Haven't investigated yet. But I'm lazy and I'd like to do my E28 first, what'll probably happen is the OBC and foggies and whatever other "desirable" bits will go on fleabay, and the proceeds go toward turning it into a cheap and nasty drift car

So welded diff, chopped springs, black bottletops and a strip out are on the cards. Subject to me ever getting out of bed before midday anytime soon

:liar:

:gives:
