im needing the expertise of someone to help me identify what wires below do what:

i have removed the old blaupunkt tape player and these are the wires that came ut of it

Image

starting from the left:

red and grey wire: ?

green and red wire: ?

brown: ?

purple: ?

the brown and purple wires go into a black connector block, then the connector connected to the tape player

Image

i know the wire with the silver connector on the left is the aerial

i think the red wire could be the power for the electric aerial but im not 100%

if i knew what each wire was for i could wire it up to my sony cd player as i have a wiring diagram for that, so i know what the wires are.

any help would be really appreciated

cheers

Ross

Hi Ross

Only way to tell for sure is to either get out the multimeter, or rplace the stereo loom witha new one that plugs straight in in the accesories socket behind the glovebox.

you can purchase a new stereo loom from bmw, if your not sure how to use the multimeter best off leaving well alone.

hey dude also have a read of this for about £15 you can get a new loom that goes just to the stereo so you can get rid of all those nasty nasty wires all over the place!

i can handle wires lying about if i know what they are

i thought to get a cd player going id only need:
+12 v Permanent supply
Switched +12v Supply
Earth -0v

i thought this would be what the existing tape player would have needed too

so if i could figure out which wires are what out of what i have then i can get my cd player going without buying a new loom

im not worried abut illuminating wire etc, just the cd player working is good enough for me

im not convinced just buying the adapter loom would suffice,

i bought one for a micra and it never worked, so i dnt want to rely on someone elses wiring, would like to wire it up myself

All you need is a test light e.g. http://www.toolspot.co.uk/product/6-12v ... uit-tester

and you can check the wires by earthing the end of the testlight to a bare part of the bodywork (say the door strap) then checking which wire is permanent 12v, which 12v switched by ignition accessory switch, and check the earth by connecting the test light to the live wire and other end to earth wire.

Then wire it all together using bullet connectors with the female sides on the car wiring to avoid accidental shorts.
