Agreed.
It was a bad start by the m3 anyway, far too much wheelspin.

The guy in the Veyron was having a cuppa and let his granny drive coz he knew the bloke in the M3 couldn't drive anyway. from the 'Well surely if I hit the limiter in every gear I'll be quick?' brigade.
She was a bit slow on take off coz her Zimmer-frame got caught on the gearknob.

That BMW Driver want to rag first gear anymore? No wonder he lost... Well and the 500 odd BHP difference.
BMW looks nicer in my opinion, so that wins it for me.

No way that bugatti is one lethal machine, that would put most car to shame, but hey look at the cost of that compared to the m3. I wish i won the lottery, Bugatti would be first on the list....

You want bang for your buck? New Nissan GTR..check out the STOCK performance figures then look at the price of a new M3, I am very tempted even though I've never had a jap car before.

Four seat production "super" car takes on composite bodied 1000bhp quad turbo Bugatti.....
BMW presumably make a profit selling us the M3. Bugatti make a 2.5m loss on every car sold at nearly £900k.
Not exactly a valid comparison!

What like Vauxhall's a GM car and therefore American? Volvo, Jaguar, and (until recently) Aston Martin are a Ford car, and therefore American? Skoda's and Seat's are therefore German.

You have no idea what your talking about.
The Veyron is a R&D project for ALL the VAG cars.
It was cheaper to design it instead of trying out all the tech in various models over a longer period of time.

I pointed out that the comparison of a quad turbo, £900k ultra car (costing IRO £2.5million to manufacture) with a £50k road car (albeit an M3) wasn't a valid comparision.Gunni wrote:-1.SidewaysScouser wrote:Four seat production "super" car takes on composite bodied 1000bhp quad turbo Bugatti.....

so a horse born in a pigstye is still a horse? Unless of course it's parents were pigs!
stupid argument anyway, as no-one here is dumb enough to think the BM won! Unless they were born in a field, which would make them sheep!

Indeed!!, although I'm pretty sure they invested fortunes in a factory in France to build the Veyron.
Why Volkswagen bought the Bugatti name is beyond me, what's wrong with Lamborghini as a flagship?

So how do you determine the origin of a car then?SidewaysScouser wrote:What like Vauxhall's a GM car and therefore American? Volvo, Jaguar, and (until recently) Aston Martin are a Ford car, and therefore American? Skoda's and Seat's are therefore German.

Firstly I'd hate someone to accuse me of not knowing what I'm talking about, so I'll say from the off that I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think Renault and Nissan are at the very least in partnership, Ford own or recently owned Land-Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar, & Volvo amongst others, VAG own Skoda, Seat, Audi, Lamborghini etc. GM own or owned Saab, Vauxhall, Opel, and a myriad of US marques. Mercedes took over Chrysler (or was it the other way round?!) a few years ago. The Crossfire's built on a Merc chassis.
So in answer to your question, I don't!!!!
And again I'm 99% certain that my M Coupe was assembled in the US. But the fit, finish and quality of the plastics were appalling, as they were in my Chevy Tahoe.

Well, if you are saying that a manufacturer retains it's identity- regardless of where the car was originally built and by whom it was/is built- you are opening up a can of worms that will never be resolved. You can't just make a blanket statement that applies to all manufacturers. The situation that exists between Fiat and Ferrari is hardly comparable to that of VW and Skoda. This type of merging and manufacturing under licence has been going on since the get go. And the comment by Sam325is is correct, The Bugatti is a VAG car (VAG as an acronym merely describes a business venture, not a location), as much as the New mini clubman is actually an italian car (the first cars were built in Turin).
Too many variables to make any sense of it at all.

1. It is true that putting aside profit from other cars with Veyron derived technology (an odd point at best) it cost bugatti more to built each car than they subsequently sell them for.Gunni wrote:you suggested Bugatti lost money on the Veyron??SidewaysScouser wrote:I pointed out that the comparison of a quad turbo, £900k ultra car (costing IRO £2.5million to manufacture) with a £50k road car (albeit an M3) wasn't a valid comparision.Gunni wrote: -1.

2. No one in there right mind thinks an m3 is faster than a veyron. i would consider both of the driver to have had a very bad launch the veyron appered to not be in gear at the start.

1. No Those figures are a total spent in development of the car and not the actual manufacturing cost after development.
They will then save VAG way more in R&D on their own cars.

Well I couldn't remember the exact BHP but it's around 420 mark... So that makes it about 580 BHP difference.. so 500 odd wasn't a bad guess.AlexBaur325 wrote:That BMW Driver want to rag first gear anymore? No wonder he lost... Well and the 500 odd BHP difference. [/quot

So this tread is about that the current M3 is faster than a Veyron and because its a VAG product it is a shite car?
I don`t think so.....
