Recaro spg fitting dramas.

A customer of mine wants to fit a recaro prosport SPG seat to his 320is.
Alas i have to fit it. Removing carpet/drilling/cutting/molesting are not options. Can we buy a bolt in 'subframe' ? can we get a kit of 'runners' etc to enable this ? The seat has to move back and forth, hieght adjust is not important. Any suggestions ?

Having it slide backwards and forwards will get rid of 1/2 the point of fitting an SPG - it'll also invalidate any FIA approval they hope to have Pete.

Get one of Uwe's subframes and fit it with that - they bolt to the standard E30 seat fiments and are superb.

If they insist on the sliding, Recaro do make a subframe but they're pricey and they'll end up with their head touching the headlining. It's aonly approved for fitment to the Pole Position not SPG although technically you shouldn't have any real probs.

Alternativly a cheaper and less satisfactory route is one of these: http://rallynuts.com/motorsport/Interio ... 0_3411.asp added to an OMP slider kit and a set of side mounts. Will probably add up to similar actually thinking about it.

Not if it's done properly.

I have just this setup (with the Pole Position) and I have plenty of clearance for my head...and my head in a helmet.

Recaro sidemounts on double locking runners sat on a custom base frame done for me by the Recaro distributor here in Australia, Pricey? Yes. Fit and finish for the installation? Perfect. Worth it? Yes.

You can still get the fittings from Recaro to convert the mechanism in your E30 seats to the speed/SRD base plate.
This is what I did, very similar to sport evo set up.

Looks quite high to me dude. Compared to the standard comfort seat next to it, it hardly looks any lower.

Depends how tall you are and how low you like your seat I suppose. Mine are literally touching the floor and I think they feel superb.

I'm 6 foot and there's plenty of room.

And I need the fore and aft movement given by the double locking runners because of a disability.

The seat is actually lower than the standard seat next to it. Perhaps the angle of the photographs doesn't show it that well. Just look at where one's arse would sit relative to each seat. The Recaro? Much, much lower.

My point was made in relation to the point you made about people using the Recaro runners having their heads touching the headlining. This is not necessarily the case and I'm a case in point. I was not making any point in relation to bolting seats straight to the floor. They will always be lower. And given my disability a direct floor mount is not really an option.

Having a Recaro installation done also means I'm technically compliant to my State's road code and I have no need of an engineer's certificate for insurance purposes. If any other "kit" had been used or any one else had installed the seat my insurance company would have required the installation to be signed off on.

As it stands I sit lower in the Pole Position than in any standard BMW seat. Much lower. And I still have 15-20mm to play with at front and rear if I want to go lower still. I'm due to go back in the New Year for a final adjustment and check. Might take another 10mm of the seat front and back and that would be about it. The rake is perfect for me.

good to see that you are happy with the mounts. I haven't go any left but will have some more in the new year

I was slightly on the piss when i fitted it. It's gone now anyway.
