which is the BMW inlet side?

Can somebody tell me, out of the top and bottom side, which side is the side which connects to the inlet of the engnie and which side is for the carbs?

(I bought these to fit onto some weber carbs which I've since sold so I cant just put them against one another to see)

Its so I can cut the weber side off and use the inlet with bike carbs so the answer needs to be 100% please!!

Bottom pic shows the side which bolts to the head.

aint bmw ports oval in the verticle direction rather than the way it shows in the pic?

Think the shape of the port varies from engine to engine.

Sure you could have the bolt hole repaired, or even just make up a clamp arrangement so you don't need to repair it.

a bolt with a flanged head will still hold that down no sweat, well good enough to work as a inlet manafold. a lot of mini manafolds only have half holes and flanged bolts. partly due to the exhaust/inlet being so close.

Yeah, but the other side of the bolt is supported by the exhaust manifold flange.

thats true, worst thing it would do is warp the treads on the stud a little tho, still its a couple of mins to weld a bit on there.

Trouble starts when the bolt bends and then becomes a pain to take out again :(

The bit that is missing is ment to be like that. that part of the manifold shares the same stud as the thermostat.

Choppa, when you attach the manifold to the head there may be a difference in thickness of material between the manifold and the thermostat housing, You will need to shim that gap up or risk leaking fluids or sucking air. I used a thick washer cut in half. like a 'c'.
Make sure they are pretty much the same otherwise you might crack one or the other. :cry:
