Well i'm needing to remove the sump on my '89 325 for the oil return feed
from the turbo and need a bit of help. I have removed everything connected to the sump, i.e oil level sensor and earth. The problem comes is at the far end of the sump towards the back, there is a cover(inspection cover??) which is held in with 4 13mm headed bolts. I have taken them out, but the thing is stuck there fast. Its auto aswell at the moment so i'm not sure if that makes a difference.
What i need to know is how to get the bloody thing off so i can see the rest of the sump bolts then i just have to start worrying about jacking the engine up to remove the sump completely. Is it just and overdose of sealant as i've hit it bloody hard so am i missing something obvious.
Sump removal tips...required

4 X 13mm bolts + some small torx headed ones through the bellhousing.

As per usual brian you are spot on, thanks chap, in a few secs i'll go about removing them then post back when i'm next stuck.lol. Thats if i can find a tool to take them out with, i believe an 8mm socket should work.
Once again brian many thanks.

yep 8mm socket (with 12 dimples rather than 6 flats, as with the end of a ring spanner) will take out those torx bolts fine, unless they're well well tight which they shouldn't be. that's what i used last time anyway!

Right that plate on the bell housing came off no problems. Problem is trying to get the sump off it now its loose. I've losened the two engine mounts off but it seems you got to jack it up for miles to clear the crossmember and rack, and i'm getting slightly worried that it might catch on the bulkhead. Any ideas where to jack it from or whether to lift it with a makeshift hoist??

i've just changed my sump and as i drive hard i cut th e shape of the sump out of a piece of cardboard for a template then cut the same shape out of aluminum checker plate end had it tig welded on. looks th buisness and no more bustin sumps on irish back roads.
just jack the car up, support the engine, remove the 2 17mil blots from passenger side sub frame and loosen those oo d/s. sump will then come out no bother
