Why waxing is goooooood (Car not body)

Apart from the wet shine you get from a good quality wax, The most important reason to wax your car is for protection.

He's my car after a wash, clay, polish and wax:








The protection it gives the paint is the the real reason behind all the work



Water and dirt will literally fall off the car making your life easier when you next wash it



So spending some time may seem like a pointless exercise but it makes sense!

I gave my car the same treatment a few weeks back. I used Collinite 476S to wax it and several washes later the water is still beading off it like a good 'un.

What did you use?

It was waxed with Swissvax onyx. The prep work was a lot more than I said above tbh but thats the general gist.

476 is a nice wax, very very durable. I used it on Weezie's motorsport cab earlier in the year. Just lacks the depth and wetness that I want for my car, durability isn't such an issue with a garage queen like mine

No pics of the interior at the moment, Just black leather sports interior really.

Stu, Try to set yourself a weekend twice a year, Give it a bloody good clean and wax it with some Colinite 476s. Two to three coats will protect the paint for an easy 6 months.

Which Dodo did you go for? light fantastic? Heard some very good reports about the Dodo range but I already have 4 different waxes so can't really justify any more

I want a wax purely for protection, which would you recommend?

I want something that's going to make the water bead off as in your video.

I normally clean my car every other week in winter, and every week during summer (what we have of it anyway), but want something that's going to protect.

I also need somthing for my alloys as the fronts turn black withing 2-3 days with all the brake-dust sticking to them.

collinite 915 0r 476 for long lasting protection and the same for the wheels.

Will let you know the results. My paintwork isn't great on my touring, but i want to protect it as much as possible, as will hopefully be giving it a full-respray in the new year

Rkive, What wax did you use? The beading doesn't look that tight so I'm guessing Meguiars NXT or step 3?

I used poorboys natty blue paste, mayb its not that tight cos it rained a while before takin the pic, n was waxed 2 weeks before the pic was taken.

What wax would you reccomend cos im gettin some more gear for christmas?

Im embaressed to say that a bucket of water has not seen my car for weeks(mind you its not been out much ), they are looking a little grey from brake dust but im hoping it will slide off with a little water.

I bought light fantastic, havn't used it though! Ive heard it is great value for money but i dont see how it could beat harleys......

Dave do you fancy waxing my car with you swisswax so i can see what difference it makes to my Jetseal and Zaino and Dodo i have used,

Best wax, Hmm hard to say.

I'd probably have to say my waxes go Vic collectors, onyx, colly 476s, Petes 53.

The collectors just pips it due to the price, £28 per tub and a stunning finish. But the onyx is a wetter gloss.

But I'm judging that as a whole product, not just a finish.

cost+ finish+ ease of use+ durability = a good wax. Because the collectors is a little cheaper it just pips the onyx at the moment. i still only have one coat of onyx on, I'm going to spit shine two more coats on before lakeside

I dont take my sport out in the rain, so i dont feel the need to blow my money on expensive wax's. The only time it gets wet is when im washing it

My car gets very little wet weather use and I'll still spend on a better wax. It's not just for protection from rain.

Surely the reason you pay big amounts for wax is for durability/protection! Harley's is quite cheap, makes my car shine real nice but it isn't very durable. If i was using the sport everyday i would invest in some swissvax for durability etc....

Lovely shine. I use Swissvax Best of Show, works a treat.

YOur water beading test video would have looked almost scientific like had you poured from a measuring beaker.

Hi Moz,

I have been so tempted with BoS but just cannot justify the price tag.

The water was poured out of a small bottle, I used deioinsed water so any drips I missed didn't leave water marks. I had put some into a small bottle so I didn't end up throwing a gallon over the rear qtr

There is absolutely nothing technical or scientific about the way I work
