When i turn my ignition on i get the sound of what seems like a flap shutting somewhere ,down by footwell ?

Mate that sounds like the Temp control valve... With the ignition switched on try turning the temp knob from hot to cold quickly , Is this the noise you have heard? Its quite normal.
