Can anyone tell me what engine this is and if it is worth keeping?

Image

It came out of a 320i or Se not too sure.

It has only 55,000 on clock.

I am thinking of putting this in my 316i, would it be worth it? and how hard of a job would it be?

Thanks.

Cool, do you have any info on it?

It is an automatic currently.

Would it be worth keeping?

Is it a good engine? (quick, reliable, easy to tune etc?)

Easy to convert to manual?

Personally I would get a manual 2.5, the B20 is probably the least desirable E30 engine.

Quick: No.
Reliable: Yes, name an E30 engine that isn't?
Easy to tune: 2.5 is a better starting block.

To add another to Jamies input. Use a 325i inlet manifold and arm, small amount of machining with a dremel on the inlet to the block, so they match, will release a few ponies. Not sure if a 325i ecu would be doing you any favours or just a tweak and poss a remap on a rolling road would be sufficient.

B20 sounds fantastic, is a bit thirsty and not great on performance. Keep it above 3.5k and you can have enough fun. The cheap mods (demlot is selling the relevant inlet bits for £30) will help no end. WIll be approaching this job in the spring before I sell my cabby.

Hi mate,
It is M20. I'm not sure is it good for transplant (B20 nt B25, auto g'box) but I know how it is hard to get a proper engine in Jersey.
If you want I can check it for you (I'm a mechanic in Hudson Motor Company on Hastings Road (near Davis Park).

Motronic ECU's are all basically the same, all that's different is the chip. Open up the ECU, take out the chip, replace chip with correct chip for the engine..... Hey presto!
325i chip isn't any good for 320i.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

I think you shoud speak with my mate James. He is really good in sound systems, tv, playstations and other stuf like that when you want to fit it in car. And he used to have E30 as well (the car is still on island: black 325i in M-Tech2 on 17" Motorsports).

If your quick and can get it down to earls court you might get a few shekels for it. The boat show is on and they are always short of anchors..........
