I've just worked out my MPG and the best I've ever got from a tank is 23.70 since I fiited the M52. That was driving like a granny. More usual usage is 19 MPG. 8O

This is no better, if not worse than an M20 boat anchor. My old 2.7 M20 when running a MAF used to make circa 30MPG, so what's likely to be the cause?

I expected 30+ from this engine in this shell.

I'm guessing my gearing doesn't help - 3.25 dif and 215/40/16 tyres, but even considering that it seems pretty thirsty.

What MPG do E36 328s do?

E36 328s do great MPG on the motorway, not so great around town. 35+mpg at 85mph set on the cruise control, 20-25mpg in town/traffic. 30mpg combined at a guess. 323 is pretty similar.

Ste, I used to get high 20's from my 328i touring. That was a bit of a lardass compared to your racer too. Mine was standard with normal M52 manfolds and circa 60k miles.

Did you get the AFR's done when it was on the dyno, wouldn't that help to know at all? Only guessing but they would show whether it was running rich or not?

Very interesting chaps - I do know it needs a remap, hopefully that will help.

Unfortunately not, this is the only graph I have: http://www.e3024v.com/board/index.php?topic=111.0

(Add your graph to the thread too please Dameon if you get a second :D ).

Tank is brand new. Checked it all again at the weekend and it doesn't seem to be leaking at all...

Temp sensor or lambda? But don't forget that the e36 325i has the worst fuel economy in the e36 range it's worse than the m3 on the motorway and almost as bad round town. Mine other car is an E36 323i coupe my girlfriend use's that on the 50/60 roads and does 100 miles a day that averages 38mpg but when I drive it round town I get about 25mpg not much better than my sport.
If I can't fix it I'll f**k it up so bad nobody can!!

May be temp sensor or Lambda, I get no errors from Carsoft though...

Mine's an M52b28 BTW - from an e38 328i. I did used to own an E35 525i with the M50b25 and to be honest didn't ever find it thirsty.

I can get over 30mpg with my M50 ste, im getting 30 regulary at the moment with all the motorway driving im doing, even breaking the speed limit when conditions allow! :D
Around town is crap though, I expect little over 20mpg especially with the cold/damp weather and 'challenging' corners winkeye

Update - spent some time fiddling with the fuel hoses and think I had a weeping one after my tank was replaced and one wasn't nipped up fully (the main feed from the fuel pump). TIghtened it and am now getting 30MPG in mixed B road driving.

So much better on the wallet! :D
