hi guys, finally got the car that i lusted for as a student in the 80's - although in india did not have too many options to choose from. I am in the process of converting a 1 owner from new imported from the uk into india 1984 316 to a 325i sport spec 4 door. Have managed to organize the engine and mechanicals from fritz's bits -- any nad all suggestions on what to look out for during my project would be much appreciated. thanks

I assume your going to uprate the brakes and suspension too?
Brakes will probably be non vented type fronts and drum rears, really not upto the job of a 6 pot to be honest.
Standard 316 front suspension will be on its arse once the 6 pot is in so youll need to upgrade that too!
Coding plug on the dash clocks will also need swapping to a 6 pot one but thats easy enough.
Basically its a pretty straightforward conversion and rewarding work!
As long as you dont follow the ways of that dodgy fooking Lepu(sp) from `Chop Shop London` then you should be onto a winner
Welcome to the zone!

yessir, fritz is supplying engine, loom, gbox, abs braking system with front vented and rear solid brakes, asked for the rear subframe with entire suspension attached, front legs, propshaft and hopefully the lsd rear end, sport interior and 6cyl instruments .
pl let me know reg the front engine mount/subframe is it different between 4 and 6 cyl - read in total bmw about a 318is owner requiring many visits to get his 2.7 conversion fitting right in the engine bay, thanks eko !!!

hi guys,
funny that i found this thread, i am in srilanka and planning an m20b25 conversion on my 4 door 316 that i bought a couple of months ago.
so far i have ordered the engine,Ecu,wiring loom, gearbox and propshaft. my car has been bought new with the mtec suspension upgrade and it also has ABS 4 disks.
i just need you expert advise in knowing whether there are some other major parts that i should order to di the conversion. Shipping costs a bomb you know.
thanks so much
Nilanka

hi there nilanka,
such a coincidence that we're both doing the same thing - what year is the car and what year are the bits coming off of - the reason i'm asking is because of the difference in the loom connectors between the pre 87 (i think) and later cars -
you will need to splice between the old and new - will have all the info when i do mine
noticed you have not mentioned the diff and the rear disc conversion - post up some pictures of ur car - cheers
also u have a bmw expert in lanka can give u his contact no if u want - pm me
