first off hello all im new to this BMW stuff being a nissan veteran ive decided to buy a E30 for drifting and am looking as we speak

ive been told for drifting either the 318 or 325 is good but the 320 is not so good? but i quite fancy a 320 as i think it is middle of the road and wouldnt be massively expensive to repair or tune

does anyone know these guys

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 67934&rd=1

thought this may help the 320 be abit more like the 325 :) what other mods (cheap would be good)

im not a newbie to tuning just to BMW's

cheers in advance

Hi there,

I wouldn't use a 318 or a 320 for drifting, you want a 325.

You will also want a Limited Slip Diff (LSD) which will be around Ԛ£200 upwards.

Good luck!

:D

still into my japanese nastiness as i run these websites www.japbay.net , www.japautopages.com and www.japforum.com so infact probably couldnt get anymore jap but always had a soft spot for the E30 BMW :D

i would like to get a 325 but one hasnt come up for the right money yet (cheap) what sort of mileage is a cut off ie if i see one with 170,000 miles should i walk away? if i say a 200sx with 170,000 miles ide run :D

gonna weld the standard diff it makes it way more scarey :D

They run okay up to and over 200k if they are well maintained.

Watch for cracked cylinder heads that's the main thing. Mayo under the oil filler cap, and overheating are your enemies, especially if you plan to give it a caning.
Saying that, replacement engines can be had for Ԛ£100> so it's not a massive deal if it dies. :D

I'm a bit into Jap too, but have to keep that quiet round here

320i and 325i are the same (M20) engine, meaning, I'm guessing, the repair costs won't be any different?

325i would be a much better bet, much faster and better on fuel than the 320i as well I've heard... :)

325i touring with LSD is probably best as a drift car due to the 50/50 weight distribution making it easier to controllably drift...

If you're just buying it for drifting 325i really is the better bet

Yes, it won't drift in the dry.
