Right I've got these gauges off ebay from an Audi Coupe

Does anyone know what thread the oil pressure sender is on the M20 engine? And where is it, I've never bothered looking
I'm gonna have to make/buy a T piece for the oil pressure sender so the oil warning still works, has anyone got any suggestions of the best place to put the oil temp gauge sensor? Or should I just try and knock up a junction that does all 3 (oil press, oil temp, BMW oil press light)

There's nothing special about a BMW oil pressure switch - the thread is the same as most oil pressure switches, so tee pieces should be easily available from motorsports suppliers.
Oil pressure switch is low down on the front right hand side of the engine on a M20. ( The thing with oil seeping out the end of it).
Oil temp senders on the M20 are usually fitted to the sump plug, IIRC.

Cheers, I'd thought about the sump plug but I think I'll have to se how big the sender is when I get it, don't want to be knocking it off on speed bumps! I think I just fork out for a standard T peice and see if it fits, can always sell it on Ebay if it doesn't.

u wont knock it off on an m20 cos of the way it comes out the sump

Yeah, I realised after I posted that it's a side exit isn't it, I have a confused mental image of the bm sump as my mini had a bottom plug adn the sump looked similar, ally with fins. I'll just have to get a decent connector so I can undo it when I do oil changes.
Any one got any idea where I can get the senders cheap ish? The seem to go for Ԛ£15-25 on evilbay.

Ive seen a lot of debate over sump senders before. It seems that the sump oil temperature is a lot cooler than the rest - but if youre just looking to detect a shift in temperature (to warn of heat problems) then the sump method is prob. easiest.

(I dont have personal experience of this so it could be crap )

what about a t piece in the pip that goes to the cooler.... that would work a treat,..

Yeah that would give a good temp reading, I'll look in to it. Not sure i can be bothered with the hassle though.

Here are some pics of the gauges in the centre console, just got to do the wiring up now! Need 2 senders, a T piece and to get a spare sump plug drilled so that I can put it in next time I change the oil.

It will be nice to be able to keep an eye on oil temp/press when the 2.7 is in.

i have audi coupe dials in mine but out of the later model.Did you get the big round sender from the car also ?? i hope so as they are Ԛ£60 at the Audi $tealer.The m20 thread is m12x1.5, thats m12 metric fine

Im currently making a center gauge pod for my Center AC vent.Ripped it out, hollowed the vent, fiberglass, pug, lot of sanding= pretty good! Although im still shaping a lot of the contours.Cant be arsed at the moment, too busy lol.

I know nothing about electrics, although im sure it wont be hard to wire my gauges up.

I didn't get the sender, but apparently for the '86 model they are only Ԛ£15, but I will find out when I go to the stealer the morrow, apparenty ECP do them too! hpe so. Chers for the thread sizes they may come in useful.
