could be a few things this
leaking heater valve/heater matrix. found behind the glovebox on rhd cars but im not sure about the m3, think its still on the lh side of the car.this tends to make one side of the car wet and not the other.
scuttle drain blocked, look under bonnet on the bulkhead near the battery tray and you should see a little plastic elephant trunk looking thingumy.they get blocked and the water backs up and goes through the air intake for the heater.
gromet where wiring goes through the bulkhead, rust is also an issue here so its deffo worth a look.
rust around the jacking points (look under the car behind the front wheel and you will see a 3" square metal plate) this allows the front wheel to splash water up into the car.
thats the ones i can remember but its probably one of the top two.
