I don't know what type it is, but the boot lid spoiler on my car is black plastic/rubber with just a body-coloured cover plate on the top side. It was a very commonly fitted spoiler and seemed to be fitted to almost every non MTech E30 at one time.

I was going to go down the MTech route and fit the whole kit because I rather like everything colour coded. Now I'm not so sure and am not convinced about the shape of MTech2 spoiler in any case. Can I colour mine? It seems a bit soft, so I have doubts about how durable any paint finish would be.

Davie from the description of your spoiler it sounds like an Mtec1 to me?
Personally I dont think the roundness of the Mtec2 suits the boxy E30 shape.

It does sound like a Tech 1. Don't confuse it with the standard SE one. Hold onto it. They're a lovely spoiler. Much nicer than the Tech 2 ones.

I agree that the description reads like an MTech1. I'm in the "it's a nicer design" camp too.
IIRC, it is possible to colour-code the rubber, but personally, I wouldn't.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Cheers guys, an opinion is always gladly received. I'm going to colour the bumpers and 'side swipes', but will leave the spoiler alone. Now you've pointed me in the right direction, I've googled and see that it's an MTech1 rear spoiler. They must have been pretty popular back in the late '80s. For what it's worth, I reckon it's a better looking add-on than the rounded Tech 2 and far more in-keeping with the boxy-body, so I'll stick with it.
