Morning guys,
Thinking of replacing all the roll bar links/bushes on my 318iS, had a couple of questions. First, does anyone know the sizes of the standard front/rear bars on this car? ECP & GSF say the front is 18.5mm but I had an inkling it may be 20mm on the iS. Secondly, is this job easier with the wheels off/car in the air or will that load up the bars making them hard to remove? I'm assuming I'll have to remove them altogether to change the bushes. Think that's all for now, sounds like a straightforward enough job.
Cheers!

I have changed the rear links. With the rear of the car supported on axle stands and both wheels removed. Suppot each trailing arm with a jack and remove the bottom bolt of each link in turn, use a hacksaw to carefully cut through the top of the link on the antiroll bar and pull the link off.

On the nearside, heat the new link in a saucepan of water (no need to boil it). Put some silicone grease on the antiroll bar and push the new link on to the bar. Use the jack to move the trailing arm until the bottom bolt can be installed.

Because I am right handed and not particularly large I could not push the offside link on. I had to remove the bolts holding the antiroll bar to the body. I could then pull the bar out far enough and install the new link. I am sure that the bushes for the brackets on the body have a split in them and and it looks as if you can replace them while the bar is still between the body work and the back axle.

If you need more access. Remove the bottom bolt from the shockabsorber and remove the spring, it will then take ten minutes to heat and install a link on the anti rolbar. Got to go Desperate Housewives is on.
