Post engine swap woes
Moderator: martauto
Just swaped out M20B20 for M20B25 changed gearbox and all required bits, what a difference in driving car feels alive now not strangled, but after first start didn't want to tickover that has now cleared and ticks over at an indicated 500rpm and now it hunts revs don't change just the sound and smells a bit rich. I have done a search and it has been mentioned that the brain has to relearn its settings after being disconnected, so after all that waffle the question is should i live with it for a few days to see what settles or start tinkering. Leave it for a few days, then go from there.

You did change the ECU for a 325i unit yes ?
Was the 325i engine running ok in the donor car ?
The ECU can take several warm-up cycles to settle in to a steady idle.

Ok couldn't resist had a tinker checked out injector loom plug thats ok both sides, checked temp senders ok,started to clutch at straws leant on AFM and it stopped hunting inspection revealed big split in hose, temp repair to last until morning car now ticks over steady at indicated 750rpm, then engine takes on life of its own revs up three times in quick sucession settles then does it again and settles once more , I really hope thats normal anybody else had this?
