Hey there

Just been going through these forums for a couple of days and I've noticed that there is a distinct lack of 4 doors saloons on this site, is there any particular reason for this?

I'm considering expanding my search of cars to 4 doors (I'd prefer a ratty 2dr or cab to be honest), but I won't go with one if they are bad cars.

Still learning about e30's, so bare with me

Thanks

Josh

BMW's didn't make a Coupe, they made 4 door and 2 door Saloons.

Pedant mode off.

I prefer the look of the 4 doors. better proportioned I reckon. Then the Tourings are even better!!!

Nothing wrong with 4-doors. :thumb:
Personally, I'd have thought if you find a good 4-door, there's a lesser chance of it having been ragged.
Any 2-door car - E30 or not - is impractical. Why bother having seats in the back if you can't get in there without being a contortionist?

According to my Owners Handbook, the 2-doors are only 20kg lighter.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

COUPE!

4 doors are just less desirable and so worth less money. Still an e30 though

Definition of coupe is quite ambiguous.

wasnt marketed as one so still is a saloon in my eyes!

I had a deviants dream of a brilliant red 325i 4 dr with tech 2 kit minus the boot spoiler it's was awesomely mint and looked a right pearler and could possibly work... mint do that once I've finished perfection

I've owned both; prefer the looks of the 2-door (though I like the more pronounced 'dog leg' trim on the 4-door's rear windows) though the 4-door is definitely easier-going as regards practicality and no awkward contortions necessary to reach the seatbelt as in the 2-door! Wind noise, handling, etc. seemed about the same.

4 door has a more rigid chassis which is why they tend to use them for racing. There's 40lbs difference in weight on stock 2 and 4 door.

E30.....Still the only production car to look fantastic in every guise! Touring, 2 door, 4 door and soft top all manage to retain the same excellent proportions and timeless look. I dont think any other manufacturer has managed this across a model range. :o

That's not the real ETK, the genuine BMW system doesn't call it a coupe.

Many years ago I owned a 320 (E21). Family comitmentments instructed me to buy a 4 door car.I could not afford an E30 4 door as they were so expensive.I bought an E28 520i instead.Today,I own a 316i touring(with 4 doors) and a 320ise with a 2.7 and 4 doors. It is a fashion thing,no one wants 4 door E30's,so they are very cheap for those of us who find a 4 door more practical.

i think the 4 doors and the tourings tend to be favoured by more mature zoners with family practicalities in mind and the zone has a broad selection of all age groups so i think maybe youve just not looked hard enough :D
ive always considered a coupe to be a 2 door with rear hatch that you can access the main cabin from the boot with no solid metal dividing wall.

The term coupe has as many different dictionary descriptions as there are dictionaries. So does sedan, saloon, and all other terms relating to car design. An Aston Martin DB2/4 convertible is described as a Drop head coupe. And the hard top version of the same car as a Fixed head coupe. Can I call my car that? It sounds so much more glamorous!! I drive a BMW E30 Fixed Head Coupe!

The same class as the Alfa GTV coupe I think? Though it was called Saloon car racing.

Two door shells are the lighter shell for racing purposes. Rigidity is only a factor if an installed cage is minimal, eg: bolt in four point where strength is going to be much more reliant upon the shell itself. A proper weld in cage with multi point in either two or four door shell will render both as good as equally rigid. These are known facts, don't be misled here.

Four door shells tend to be more common and cheaper, although ultimately these days the overall condition of a given car dictates it's value. A good four door car is going to be worth more than a ratty two door. But assume they are similar condition and the two door will command more.

Personally I like them all equally to look at as each have thier respective good and not so good points.

Not really interested in the 4 door for practically reasons. I'm coming up to 17 and looking for a e30 as a first car and stumbled across a cheap 320i 4 door, and I was wondering it if was worth picking up, it was just the lack of 4 doors got me worried a tad.

After hearing how much it would cost to insure my Supra, about EVERYTHING seems cheap :D. The gap between a 320 and a 316 is £100 at the most for me, the difference between the 320 and a 325 is about £4000 though 8O.

ive noticed there seems to be a lot of 4 doors popping up on the zone lately. as stated though wouldnt say theres anything up with a 4 door ive had a few and my sis is running my old one and theres less chance of a 4 door getting chaved out and ragged winkeye
