even if kippers car is tuned up and modded i doubt its over 180bhp....and that is nowhere near enough power to keep up with a pulsar or an m3 evo

so either his mates are shit drivers or he likes to exagerate ALOT

A standard M20 2.5 in an e30 should make 170bhp+ so long as it is in decent condition...
A simple chip upgrade and map will give an extra 10-20bhp and, if you go for a balance, lighten, and careful rebuild with quality components and a few simple mods such as polishing and matching the inlets and exhaust tracts, then it shouldn't be too hard to get close to 200bhp.

My 325 with a chip from Chipped UK and nothing else but good maintenence makes nearly 190bhp at the flywheel...

But on a track, and especially in the wet, it is driver ability that will count for more than outright power...
Chassis balance is also important and decent brakes/suspension can greatly improve laptimes...
I used to race a 2002. In one year we went to Brands Indy circuit twice in one year...once in May and again in July.
In May my car had a 70s vintage Alpina suspension set-up with not ideal spring rates...
Between then and the July event I upgraded the suspension (nothing else, just that) to Leda coilover struts and AVO custom springs with Spax adjustable rear dampers....
The improvement in laptime was enough to move from the 5th row to the 2nd on the grid and enabled me to race (and beat) many more powerful and better developed E30 M3s.

My car had less power (albeit in a lighter shell) and had much poorer brakes than the M3s...But I could still match them and finished 4th (and 1st in class)...
So, while on paper an E30 325 may not beat a Pulsar a trackday isn't going to tell the whole story...The driver may have been holding back, or just couldn't handle the car or get all the power onto the road...What tyres were on the cars?
Perhaps the suspension was set too hard for wet conditions...Perhaps the car had a problem...

less power is better in the wet :) going back to the comment bout m3's getting whipped by ren 19's in the wet, apparently so my coll teacher was saying tht they were shit in the dry but good in the wet cos the chassis flexed quite a bit, he used to work 4 the team btw

@ 0.7 bar ( 8/9psi ) I clocked 0-60 in 6.52 sec, so roughly 230/250 bhp area......

Having also ran it @ 18psi I clocked something silly like 5.1 or something but didn't get a pic of the G-tech as I was to busy changing gear  also clutch, tires and rear arches were all smoking afterwards :D

IIRC Alex ran a 0-60 of 6.3 with 240bhp @ 270ftlb

I agree mate, it sounds like the E30 was better tuned for that day or the other drivers just wern't pushing it as much.

I just went through this tread and i have noticed that we e30 drivers are very self loathing, we always seem to say we love our cars and believe in their build quality, design and handling, but heaven forbid someone says their car is FAST 8O oh no shock and horror!!

Heres something for you, my car is faster than a Golf V Gti from traffic light to traffic light. i raced my friends GTi and i beat him to the next light!!! True Story

(Background story: i did beat him, because the nut missed gears and went from 1st to 4th)

e30 325i's with lazy ass autos rule!! 8)

They are still (relatively) fast...

There aren't many small saloons (or hatches) that will be faster in day-to-day driving than a 325.
They may have a better 0-60, but you can improve that with gearing... (get a short diff)...
However, I doubt they will be as fast say 50-70 in top or through the gears...

The big improvement in technology, though, is in fuel consumption...
A 2.5 X-Type will average around 30-32mpg whereas you'd be pushed to get 25mpg+ in a 325 unless you pussyfoot around (and then you can hardly call it a fast car)...

i dont believe that a 325 could beat the mentioned cars. it defys me why people want to rag the @uck out of there 325i's.......... why???? arent we supposed to be looking after the cars? i dont see how racing another newer car or any car for that matter can be seen as cool. maybe i drive like a woman but i have respect for my car and my engine( yes, even the boat anchor b20 ) apparently 325's pull like a big train when running on 320 running gear..... i have yet to find out :(

Cars are meant to be driven. Although if you want to drive slow then that's your decision. But you can take take a car to the limiter as it's safe. Obviously not spending an hour on the limiter...

The E36 M3 Evo should destroy it though!
