IS A 325i MENT TO BE THIS QUICK
Moderator: martauto
hi,
this is my second e30 but first 325i...when i bougth it the guy said it was tuned but didnt go into much detail..i just looked over it, test drove it and away i went...... my mate has a certified 352bhp pulsar and my other mate has a e36 M3 EVO.. when im sat in them they feel quick as hell and when im in the e30 is feels fast but not as fast....however last weekend at a private track day i discovered my 325 keeps up with them...so much i can read where the number plates was made.... with the pulsar it pass it ofter 110 mph due to its limiter..i also made light work of passing a calibra 2.6 V6 too....are 325i's all this quick or have a been a lucky buyer....... fasted 0 to 60 time was 6.6 but it was very wet...car tops out at 145 too...does this sound right???????????

sounds quicker than the norm and a 350bhp pulsar should destroy it

Sounds surprisingly quick for a car with no obvious mods, like a turbo. Got any engine pics?

It does sound quick though..
On the last track day I went past a E36 3.0 M3 but that was because I knew the track and he didn't plus his was as standard and mine is n't but no turbo
- I'm sure a E36 M3 evo would be quicker on the track than a E30 325...

mate how many owners etc, service history etc, if its been properly looked after then it may just be a decent car you got there. I had one, i was the 2nd owner, had all service history, the car was SOLID, was very quick, kept upto most cars, and just kept pulling. Really miss it now, as cant find one like it, most have been over thrashed!!
You say it was very wet, and you were on a track day? Was it a circuit or an airfield?
As other have said, your car could be special in some way, but it could also be that the other drivers were being cautious, or they didn't know the circuit very well?
Of course, the other cars you mentioned have more power, but if the driver can't use it, for whatever reason, then it no longer gives an advantage.
Just another way of looking at it...

the pulsar would kill the m3 evo and the 325i unless it broke down which isn't unusual.

are you sure your mates werent deliberately not trying just to humour you? a standard pulsar is no slouch and a genuine 352bhp one would embarras an e30.an e30 would need to be turbo'd or have a ford cosworth engine fitted to beat that

surely if the pulsar is modified up to 352bhp that would mean its chipped for sure which would mean it is no longer limited to 110 mph?

a 0-60 in 6.6 seconds seems optimistic!
Get the car on a rolling road and have it verified.
As far as the track goes, it could be down to driver ability and confidence, over some Top Trumps stats.
Though the Calibrarse killing I'm not surprised at..

That,ll be because im a pre facelift 325i owner Tim, everybody knows we are slightly quicker.tim_s wrote:damn, beat me to itgooner1 wrote:Feck Kipper, you sure you hav,nt been sold a legendary IS![]()

its a 1990..... no obvious mods...not in the sense of turbos fitted anyway.. i know the diff has been changed but to what ratio i dont know... the pulsar kills me on the bends and its limiter is part of an on board computer he paid a fortune for that controls everything on the car..would not suprise me if he could adjust the speed the windows go up and down lol.. dont think its an IS as ive been told IS have black roof linings.. i dont know what the hells been done to it btu i like it

still wouldnt beat a 352bhp pulsar imo.snoops wrote:could be a 2.7?
thats only because so many bits have rusted and fell off that it weighs less than kate moss after a dose of the runs.gooner1 wrote:That,ll be because im a pre facelift 325i owner Tim, everybody knows we are slightly quicker.

LOL, actually fuzzy i have a 93 318i touring here and every kin bolt ive tried to undo is rusted up. Its a mare compared to the cab.

One of my previous cars was a pulsar gtir , Would destroy e30 m3s and 325s , They also wouldnt stand a chance in the twistys as the gtir is 4wd , I wouldnt go round my local lanes as fast as i did in my gtirmaxfield wrote:An E30 makes sense on track. I would of thought it would keep up with a Pulsar in the twisties.
Nope , Imports are restricted to 180kph , Simple chip and a few wires to convert the speedo to mph losing the restrictor unless you hit 180mph which would not happen , Aerodynamics of a brick but a very underestimated carkipper wrote:and its limiter is part of an on board computer he paid a fortune for that controls everything on the car
Oh shit! I thought they were FWDSteve-E30 wrote:One of my previous cars was a pulsar gtir , Would destroy e30 m3s and 325s , They also wouldnt stand a chance in the twistys as the gtir is 4wd , I wouldnt go round my local lanes as fast as i did in my gtirmaxfield wrote:An E30 makes sense on track. In that case both cars would piss all over an E30 325i!!

I've seen E30's go round the track very quick in the wet!hartgefan wrote:wow another one of those magical e30's that handle in the wet! that is a very special car you have there, does it have a little quattro badge on the back?
Where' he30, I'm sure he can back me up on this!

maybe you should watch the btcc from the eighties, when it rained the m3's were nowhere usually beaten by renault 19's or similar if prodrive couldnt get them to handle well i dont think someone with a set of bilsteins can.opened a can of worms now i fear
oh dont get me wrong maxfield i love my e30's as much as anyone but i just get a bit hacked off when guys are clearly talking bollocks and posting nonsense,if he can keep up with a 325 bhp 4wd rice rocket in the wet remember then he must be a brilliant driver and the gtir driver should have a sunny LX

Were these the R19's with paper thin panels to reduce weight. I heard rumours of mechanics puncturing the panel with tools by accident.hartgefan wrote:maybe you should watch the btcc from the eighties, when it rained the m3's were nowhere usually beaten by renault 19's or similar if prodrive couldnt get them to handle well i dont think someone with a set of bilsteins can.opened a can of worms now i fear
I agree tho, The E30 is not all conquering.

I agree, I don't see an standard E30 325i keeping up with it...hartgefan wrote:oh dont get me wrong maxfield i love my e30's as much as anyone but i just get a bit hacked off when guys are clearly talking bollocks and posting nonsense,if he can keep up with a 325 bhp 4wd rice rocket in the wet remember then he must be a brilliant driver and the gtir driver should have a sunny LX
Don't think it would keep up with a standard one..
Assuming same skilled drivers.

sorry mate. i will never believe that a 325 would even keep up with a smaller lighter car with more than double the power. i wouldnt expect my car to beat a 352bhp pulsar and i have nearly 300bhp.kipper wrote:it does not beat the pulsar just sits right up his ar*e....going to have to hey a look for the engine number...any idea where it is lol...
4wd turbo charged 352bhp?
