Help required, newbie to the zone and currently putting a '89 dolphin grey sport back to standard. On the panel under the steering wheel is a switch which I believe adjusts the angle of headlamp beam, (say if you are carring a heavy load and you're doing an immpression of a WW2 search light.) Well this switch has no wires attached or anything else. I've looked in several manuals I've got and cant find anything out about this system, how it works or common problems etc?
I have a feeling the panel is not original.
Anyone help me out.
Thanks Houston

It works by hydraulic fuid, blue and a white pipe behind it?, i've never seen one that actually works. once the fluid leaks it cannot be replaced and made to last, I wouldnt even entertain playing with it.
Hi You should have had clear piping running from the lamps to the switch as they were hydraulic. The way to go is put in electric motors from a newer BMW (someone will be along with the correct model) or just do it manually, which requires plenty of WD40.

you can fix them if you don't mind handing over an arm and a leg.... my hydraulic adjuster didnt work and the manual adjusters wew stiff as hell so i bought an set of light off a zoner and they passed the mot without needing adjusting!!
the under dash panels are a common part to be damaged/lost so chances are it is not original and the pipes arent connected.
