M20 2.5 is 12v, 170bhp (you knew that of course)
M50 2.5 is 24v, 192bhp =
Not really much point going from 2.5 M20 to M50 really, too much work for the extra bhp I reckon.
If you plan going 2.5 from a 4-pot though
I wonder what difference there is in the work involved in going M50 from a 4-pot rather than M20....

Hmm....considering the availability of 2.5 M50s these days, I can't see many people choosing M20 over them....think of the economy with all those valves as well

That was something i had never thought of.
Doing an M50 instead of an M20 conversion when the time comes.
forgotten his name but doesnt someone on this site with a white 4 door M-tech II kitted E30 have this engine in?
Who else has done it?
Adam

There are several of us on here who have done or are doing an M50 conversion in place of a M20, buts it's not quite as simple as taking one engine out and dropping the other in.
I can assure you, Zayyan, it's well worth doing for the extra horses!

Are you saying it's worth going from 2.5 M20 to 2.5 M50?
Or that 4-pot to 6-pot M50's worth it?
I reckon when insurance is reasonable I'll do a 4-pot to M50 conversion....be good to have something special (with the original 316i/318i badge on the back of course)
