I hope to have the inlet valves etc out and the head ready for testing this weekend.
Before taking it to get tested though do I need to remove all the exhaust and inlet manifold studs or can they do it with these still on?
Should I also clean the head up so its spot less or will it be fine the way it is?
Im going to clean and paint the engine anyway so Im going to clean the outside of the head at some point.

Do they need the studs removed as well?

They shouldn't need the studs removed mate.

They also shoudn't need it cleaned up because they will be giving it a high pressure high heat clean up before they test it.

Just literally got home from picking mine up after being rebuilt with new stem seals and refaced.

Indeed I have...

No pics as yet, cos I don't have a camera here at the moment but I will get some when I'm up this way next.

Looking good though, should be able to get it back together a couple of days after my final exam on the 8th of June....

Ideally in time for the Stevenage meet on the 11th :?

Maybe not!!

Nice one. So yours wasnt cracked after all?! Im praying mine is ok.
Do you mind me asking how much it cost to get yours tested and re-faced?

Is it a difficult job to change the stem seals? Im going to change mine but as Ive done everything else myself I was hoping I could just do those myself as well.

Valve seals arn't hard to change, they can be a little bit hard to pull the old ones off.Oil the new ones up before you fit them. From memory you need an 11mm socket, small extention bar and a rubber mallet to tap the new seals on.

Mine wasn't cracked apparently no.

I paid 150 for a complete strip down, pressure/crack test new valve stem seals fitting, one new valve guide and one new exhaust valve (old one was bent).

Hey Dave.
Just been looking at the side profile of your Touring.
My Touring looks just like it. Have you got saggy Ventura springs on too, or is it a spare M5 motor in the back ready to be fitted?

Anybody know what the standard spring poundage is for 325i Touring's?

When they crack test a M20 head, does that always include checking for cracks in the cam bearing housing?
I've seen more heads with a cracked no. 3 cam bearing than cracks into the combustion chamber.

Brian,

This is what they said to me, hence they said to be 100% sure they dismantled the head, which cost extra obviously

It's going on the Sport Mark.

Next step is the arches, once they're done it's finished. :woohoo:
