Have come across a 1988 F reg 1 owner 325 con (chrome bumper) with power hood and full black leather, auto box and couple other bits but no Mtech. its a genuine 12k miles been in heated garage all its life and not been on the road for 11 years other than to get an MOT recently, which it got with no faults whatsover. Its in white.
Am thinking very hard about buying this but want peoples opinion on the value, it has no, zero, nada rust, marks, blemshes or wear whatsover, like it left the factory.
Price??

sounds like a find ,if it is what you and the spec is right sounds like you will not find one better price is what you are prepared to pay for it could be anywhere form £5000 to £10,000 but you will need to keep her in the manner she has been used to . wish i could have found exactly what I wanted (325 conv wanted manual but ended up with auto because it was the cleanest I had seem after looking at about 15 cars) good luck hope it works out for you

I'm thinking get BMW to fit an MTECII kit on it and use it as a very occasional weekend toy, already got the motorsport which is costing me ridiculous money in doing up so this would really be to buy and admire as much as anything, truth to tell it would probably sepdn most of its time in the garage to keep the miles down.Bally wrote:sounds like a find ,if it is what you and the spec is right sounds like you will not find one better price is what you are prepared to pay for it could be anywhere form £5000 to £10,000 but you will need to keep her in the manner she has been used to . wish i could have found exactly what I wanted (325 conv wanted manual but ended up with auto because it was the cleanest I had seem after looking at about 15 cars) good luck hope it works out for you

I thought people didnt like chrome bumper models? personally prefer the clean lines of an MTECIISimon13 wrote:Tim don't molest the car with an m-tech kit, it's very hard to value a car like this, how long is a piece of string!
For valuation I guess it would be helpful to know the value on a 1988 con of average miles and condition with full history, 2k? 3k??
Cheers,

don't worry Tim i'm not.
You should come to ace cafe and see the tat passed there as good on the cab front. M-tech kits are nice yes but so is a timewarp original condtion car with chrome don't you think?

Will Mtec 11 fit chrome bumper anyway? Leave it alone!
Old Colnel cars will give you an idea of the value of low milage, excelent cars.
Cars with exceptional histories are often very expensive. If it is a perfect as you say I'd think at least 8k.

Keep it standard pal. It will hold its value better that way I think. I had to look long and hard to find a standard one which I paid £2450 for.
There can't be many with that sort of mileage around.
Looking forward to seeing some pix if you get it!

Tech 2 is Facelift and will not fit without fannying around. Will look plain wrong.
Tech 1 with chrome is a possibility, but finding tech1 side skirts is an issue. I think they must all be stored with the Holy Grail, guarded by Lord Lucan and Robert Maxwell.
Shadow line was an option, where the chrome was replaced with black trim, the bumpers were colour coded. That would work well with Tech 1.
Having seen a tech 1 sport at the pod last year, 36k and faultless, going for IRO £6k, I'd say MAx's valuation would not be far wide of the mark.
My only issue is that this car has obviously never been properly enjoyed as intended. You'll be worried about getting the slightest blemish on it. Making storage and fettling and extremely detailed affair. Is that the level of maintenance you are looking for?
Or do you want a nice cab that you don't mind if it gets wet from time to time, isn't afraid of 6k revs and the workld wont end for it if it gets a stone chip?

Looking at Philwilds cab briefly in the pic and what he paid for it. That ultimately looks more useable.

To be honest i'd probably put 2-3k miles on it until next summer, at which point my Motorsport will be finished and then I'd look to sell it as i dont need 6 cars and i've run out of garage / drive space.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Tech 2 is Facelift and will not fit without fannying around. Thinking about this i agree that leaving it standard would indeed make more sense, will be going to do the deal this weekend (thats 2 cars i'm buying this weekend, logisitics is going to be fun!)

In that case, I think you're over engineering a solution for a car you need for 6 months.bloom_meister wrote:To be honest i'd probably put 2-3k miles on it until next summer, at which point my Motorsport will be finished and then I'd look to sell it as i dont need 6 cars and i've run out of garage / drive space.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Tech 2 is Facelift and will not fit without fannying around. If you have six cars, why do you need another to run around in for 6 months?

lol good reason!!
If a car has been sat doing nothing for all that time, it may need a lot more work than you'd realise. Check that anything rubber has not started to perish.
Hence settling for something a little cheaper that has more 'working history'

Strange spec!!!
Better wheels, colour coded bumpers and a drop in ride height would be good. White coded bumpers look the nuts.

It's a lovely, lovely thing. But as already said,I would be afraid to use it in case it caught a stone.E30's are largely still in the 'twilight zone',cars like this should make big money one day.The snag is,can anyone afford to keep and maintain this sort of thing in the hope that it may hold or improve it's value?

Bollox (s'cuse the german), but this is so original that any meddling at this stage would ruin the car AND it's value.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Strange spec!!!

I think it looks fantastic as it is....
1987 Henna Rot M3 (was 195bhp CAT..now more and no cat)
2001 E46 330i SE Touring (manual)
2001 E46 330i SE Touring (manual)
It would also reduce the value of the by about 50%! When was the last time you saw such an original chrome bumpered E30, let alone a cabriolet?Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Better wheels, colour coded bumpers and a drop in ride height would be good. White coded bumpers look the nuts.
That is mint, original and beautiful and it must stay that way!!
Nice find

It's not the fecking Bayeux Tapestry!
All the things I have stated are either reversible or were available from the stealer.

Ah thanks mate...I'm welling up.tomtomiS wrote:take trevors (B7) one for example
Seriously though, If you were to buy this and do anything other than clean it and use it for meets, Gaydon etc. you'd be a pratt and I'd shoot you
I'd put 6-8k on it all day long. Speak to Daniel at 80's emporium and see what he reckons. WLN would put 8k on this all day long. And from them that may seem cheap but as has been already mentioned, it's a chrome bumper car, in white, non swtchable auto and on 14" bottletops. If it was a manual, in Royal Blue with 15" BBS it would be worth more.
Buy it and if you want to mod one, sell it it to someone who'll cherish it for what it is, and buy (as Simon said) a 3k usable one and f*ck about with that instead.
B7's Motto. "If it's French, BURN IT!!!!!!"
I would deff put 15" bbs on it though but nothing else.
