Hi guys
i was having a chat with the boys at the office this morning, about the e92 M3 and they all reckoned that the e92 335i is a better car than the new e92 M3, it is fast through the gears and has more usable real world power. There main bone of contention is the torque from the M3 engine.. What do you guys think?

335d has got MUCH more mid range torque (more than an M5!) and is only fractionally slower - I know as I have a 335d Coupe and on the autobahn the only things that have passed me are a 911 Turbo and a 550 Maranello.....

the harge 380hp upgrade + LSD should make it definately so..however the M would have other bits n pieces....not a huge fan, it is cool though

yeah this is the same sort thing the guys at the office where saying. Where as before we all knew the M3 was the ultimate, but now you have to think should you not go for the "cheaper" option and get a 335i or 335d etc...

335d M Sport Coupe all the way, chipped and de-restricted. Mine's standard, but tops out at 163mph (ON DE RESTRICTED SECTIONS OF AUTOBAHN!!!!!). The lowest my fuel consumption has dropped to according to the OBC is 27mpg. Pretty impressive stuff.

The only thing you're missing is the rorty petrol engine sound :(

It is pricey the new M3. But it has a powerful, revvy, and nice sounding V8 with, as expected, lot of nasp power (the 335i is hardly laggy but will never be as responsive), a wider track, superior brakes and suspension, LSD (a clever one), carbon roof and alumium panels too. I like the 335i a lot, but it's really just a 3 series with a pokey engine. An M3 is a superior machine designed to be driven hard in every way, the 335i just in a straight line. The money you'd spend on a 335i and fettling to match an M3 would bring it well past 50k, and personally I wouldn't want to fettle with such a new car.
