what offset alloy wheels do i need to fit onto a 1990 316i e30 lowered approx 40mm??

Depends on how wide they are...
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...

ET24 is ideal then, but (depending on tyres obviously) anything from 15 to 25 will probably be ok, & possibly a little outside that range.

you can compare using the tyre size tool in the links section ...if you feed in the current size you can compare the effect of different offsets and tyre /wheel combos
