Circuit days are doing Bedford next Feb. The date is 23rd Feb. No doubt it will be open pit lane as usual with them.

I only have a couple of details at the moment.

It will be on the new 4.2 mile GT circuit. The normal price is £159 with the Northloop discount it's £140.

I will use this as a target for testing on the BMW. Anyone else fancy it?

If you do then contact me via PM and I will get you sorted using the Northloop discount.

When do you want paying for it. Good place for a test run as there's (relatively) little to hit and no gravel traps. Palmer doesn't like you nobbing up his grass though :)

Watch out for the noise limit as it's really low at Bedford. Might be worth investing in a baffle.

I dont need any money for a while yet.

The noise limit is usually around 98db which will be fine for all but the loudest cars.

I will add you to the list as a maybe

Yeah put me down as a probably definitely!

It's the drive by noise limit that catches people out. It's about 85db and trips a meter linked to the council. Mr Palmer doesn't want to lose all those big money corporate types!

It's not 85db's.

This isnt taken from Circuit-days as they dont have their info up yet, but it's taken from a similar site

Noise Restrictions
101dB Static. 0.5m and 45° from exhaust at ¾ maximum RPM.

87ÂadB Drive-By noise limit from 20m.

All cars are static testing prior to entering the track.

My experience is that nearly all cars pass the test. Only the noisiest Scoobys and the like have issues. If you pass the test marginally and then are flagged for noise violation by one of the on track meters you can let off as you pass these points on the circuit. This is very extreme though and a rarity

I knew it was 80 something! The difference between 85 and 87.5 is nearly twice as loud though.....

Iv'e never had a problem before but have heard of road "legal" exiges tripping the meter!

Exiges with stage 2 exhausts do but thats a 105db exhaust, stage 1 is fine there which is a 98db system and the boggo one sounds like a lawn mower so again no porb there :)

Its induction noise that trips them aswell not just exhaust

Should be OK Max, my 325 with Scorpian was measured at 94db when we were at Brands Hatch, don't remember your old mans M3 being much louder.

As a general rule there is no insurance on a track day. You can get cover but it will cost you a pretty penny and the insurer puts a high excess on due to the increased risk. You could be looking at £150 for the day and £1,500 excess. With that in mind people who insure their cars on track days are VERY much in the minority.

If you happened to bin your car and decided to drag it away from the track and claim it happened somewhere else that would of course be your perogative. I wouldn't recommend it though

Accidents do happen on track days that is true. Incidents involving 2 vehicles are very very rare. It is generally the fact that someone runs out of talent and hits armco on their own. HOWEVER Bedford is an excellent safe circuit with loads of run off space. It is a great place to test the limits of your car in a safe environment.

There will be a proper driver briefing before the driving begins and then several duck and drake laps where you follow a circuit car gradually building up speed. Expert tuition will also be available.

Listen at the briefing, keep an eye on your mirrors, drive courteously and expect the same from others and you will be fine.

Sorry I dont understand the first part of the question?

The condition of the car is that it doesn't need to be road legal but it does need to be in good enough condition to be driven safely on track. If it's leaking fluids you will be asked to leave. If it fails the noise test you will be asked to leave. The usual stuff really

I was at Bedford earlier in the year and it is a fantastic track, especially if its your first track day as there is loads of run off and vert little to hit.

It was the first track day ive been on where they didnt check over anyones car, just did the noise test. Its all pretty relaxed and you can fill up on fuel while on site, cant remember how much it was though.

This sounds very tempting, a good run from the Isle of Man so I'm currently looking at the half term dates as my wife will kill me for leaving her with the three little monsters for a whole weekend

I heard a lot of good about Bedford (the track not the place!) so would love to come down for a blast. I've done about ten track days here on the Island track (a disused airfield too), different variations using cones and running clockwise and anti Clock. I'd be looking at getting some extra tuition to see how I can improve from rubbish to Ok..ish. Will the tuition be extra?

I think my car registered at 98dbls at 3500 refs close up - but you can get bungs if it is too noisy..

Accomodation?

Now looking at Ferry costs...
The Isle of Man: No National Speed Limit, No Gatso's, No Nanny State, a disused airfield track 1.5 miles long, the best mountain road to drive on...Come and Play!

As a general rule there is expert tuition available with a slot of around 20 minutes costing nothing. Depending on how busy the instructor is that could be extended. I will check to make sure that is def the case on this event for you.

I am booked into the local travel lodge you can get a double room for £29

The noise restriction has been confirmed as

101dB Static. 0.5m and 45° from exhaust at ¾ maximum RPM.

87ÂadB Drive-By noise limit from 20m.

All cars are static testing prior to entering the track.
