I'm changing my interior from crappy beige to a nice grey.
But that carpet. Hmm, what do do with it? I know! I'll take it out for now!

Arf. I sure hope it's easier getting it back in
Good news though. Under the carpet, the metal all looks like it came out of the factory yesterday. 8)

Don't bother putting it all back in....just do the driver's seat and enjoy the speed you've gained from getting rid of all that weight! :D

Looks very clean under the carpet....I don't dare look under mine

Hopefully I'm going to dye it.
Actually, I've been told a dye won't hold to it (stain resistant, man-made fibres won't allow the dye to set in), so I've got this stuff from work that I'm going to try over the next few days (weeks?!) It's gonna take a fair few cans but, hell, it's free ;)

The stuff's called Magix spray. It's actually made to dye leather (shoes and handbags in particular). I'm hoping it'll make a fair job of it.

you sure it wont run, for example wet shoes wont make it run and then you get stains onto your seats?

That's another thing I'm worried about. Firstly, I'm going to test a small area (like under where the seat goes) then subject it to some torture :)
I've also been told that car spray works. Is crusty at first but will soften up eventually. I'm not sure I like that idea though.

If it doesn't work, then I'll have to keep an eye on EBay I guess.

i am not sure about the car spay. it would make the carpet rough surely as the hairs would be stuck together in bunches. Also would it not just flake off with time. only one way to find out...

I've put the seats back in now so at least I can use the car. My god those carpets sure block out a lot of noise! Especially as, occassionally, I've got the noisiest, rattliest engine this side of Massey Ferguson until it warms up.

Strangely, the car feels faster (I think that's in my mind though) but also far more connected, for want of a better word. Now I'm not cocooned from the sound everything feels far more...hmm I'm struggling here. It feels good anyway, in a strange kinda way. Even the gearstick feels nicer without having that gaiter to restrict it.

oh and BTW I even found the torch under the center console

Surely just removing the carpet, centre console and parcel shelf wouldn't make much difference? I've put my new seats in remember.

even a trip tp the scrap yard, get a half decent one and spend the time you will dying it anyway on a few cans of upholstery cleaner and a good brush. With seats out it is amazing how clean it will come up.
