'89 325i 4 door, track ready

I've noticed a few e30 track cars on here lately so I thought i'd show our fun car.

'89 325i 4 door

Additions;
- BBS RX 7x16'' wheels, Hankook ventus not ideally sized 195/45/16 tyres
- SE front bumpers, wing mirrors (got skirts too but still not on yet!)
- H&R cup shocks and springs, 40mm drop all round
- H&R anti-roll bars/poly bushes
- Powerflex lower arm poly bushes
- Corbeau Forza bucket seats
- Mongoose SS exhaust - mid & rear section
- ITG panel air filter
- MOMO Tuner black 350mm steering wheel

Haven't done anything with the brakes yet
Mechanically it is superb in my opinion.
Bodywork is good, honest. Front wings are a gone, some light rust on the rear arches
Running like a dream at the moment.

Hello AlpineAde, thanks for your kind comments, great choice of car, quality setup and it looks mint!
I have looked at wilwood 4 pot caliper front brakes but I think i'm going to try a cheaper option first - genuine discs all round, ebc red stuff pads, ss hoses, and race fluid.
Turbotastic, yes I know the wheels look a bit lost in the arches but once we've killed the hankooks we'll fit 205's which should make them look a bit chunkier, and obviously improve grip. Not sure whether to go for 45 or 50 profile yet. At the moment the wheels/tyres are smaller in diameter and width than the 205/55/15 setup you get on a standard sport.

Thanks, I haven't really done a lot of weight saving, the interior is still all there, may strip it next year but at the moment want it to be 'civil' enough for road use.

I've found the ATE Powerdiscs (slotted rotor) at the front and OEM rotor at the rear with good pads and race fluid to be perfectly fine. Fine on the street, too. I really like AP Racing fluid (I use the 600). Motul is another one that is good, too.

I reckon a 15x7" rim running 205/50s would be the way to go. You might want to try a 16" rim....

Remember that wheel size/tyre profile can also affect your gearing. This can be a good thing.

I'm going to end up going for something like a Team Dynamics lightweight 15" rim with a 205 50 profile tyre.

As far as pad choice is concerned you can swap the fronts out depending on the circuit and its braking needs. Circuits with a lot of big stopping...you might want to look at EBC Yellows. Greens might serve everywhere else.

I have never had an issue with EBC pads.

The rears will only ever need Greens (after all, most of your braking force is on the front).

Greens/Reds/Yellows for the front depending on need/feel and circuit.

My rims are 16'', 7 inch width, I think 205/45/16 brings the total diameter closest to OE spec but i'm not sure if a 50 profile would work better.
I am now leaning towards EBC yellows on the front, as the brakes were sizzling at snetterton! Definitely green on the rear as you say.
I'll be running this car as a daily driver in a couple of weeks time while my sport undergoes a bit of restoration.

Stick with those rims and tyre profile. As you say...closest to spec.

Try the Yellows. They can take an absolute caning. A word to the wise, though: they need heat, so if you're coming off the motorway after a fair bit of brake-free driving you'll find that your braking power is less than stellar. Give 'em a couple of applications to get some heat and you'll be fine. In stop/start traffic they generate more than enough heat to function well.

Ahhh a white E30 track car in a four door form, I have it's slimmer cousin in 2 door form 325i


Weight 1050 kgs with cage and 1/2 tank juice but not me inside!
Brakes are standard discs, yellow stuff pads , braded hoses, 5:1 fluid and work well and a lot cheaper than willwoods BUT I've heard they are fab!
Billies all round shocks and springs
OMP RS seats for the fuller figure
Willams 6 point harnesses
OMP 6 point bolt in cage
Toyo R888 195/50/15 tyres - FAB from Camskill
Polly bushed
E30 chip
Home made air induction (note the missing nearside headlight - a great mod)
Home made exhaust - no boxs to be seen

Based here in the Isle of Man, next track day is the 18th Nov - can't wait

Especially interested in the weight reduction specs.

I just installed a Recaro Pole Position seat and weighed my drivers seat and came up with a similar figure to yours. The Pole Position is about 15 pounds. With base and side mounts it creeps up near 20 pounds in the car.

I'm also thinking of a Carbon bonnet from MA Shaw (they weigh 12 pounds). Have you heard of them? Fit and finish is exemplary.

Did you weigh the stock exhaust? I'm expecting mine to weigh about 2/3rds of the stockie when mine is finished.

Hi Tom, these have made such a big improvement to the handling with no loss in ride quality as far as i'm concerned, much sharper and stays nice and flat when cornering as you can see in the photos, although the new springs and shocks obviously play a part in the body control too. I strongly recommend them, eibach do a similar kit as well.

No plans for a cage yet Tom944 but maybe in the future!

Lloydie38, very nice setup you've got there, ideally i would have like a 2 door for the track but i got the 4 door as a trade in, it was in such good condition and so cheap i had to have it!
